Not exactly a fan of his because he's not done much for the team whenever he's played but even I will give him a pass for yesterday. 40min he played. New season, new chance.

Interesting. Difficult to think DCL had the better season having actually watched us play though. Thought he looked a football league player in literally every game and will probably end up there.

You must have been watching a different team to me if you though DCL was poor and sigy played well last season.

Gylfi is probably the player most under pressure at the club this season. He wil have the players around him to play and he has to put it together from the No. 10 position. I hope he steps up to the plate but I have some doubts. Can't see Silva being all that patient with him. Next week should be a great opportunity for him to get started in building a legacy for himself.

Unfortunate that he had to go off yesterday, but sadly it was a necessary sub for team shape with only 10 men.

Look forward to him linking up with Richarlison, Walcott and Bernard.

Classy player, but our best and most effective team simply does not have him in it, anywhere

I'd argue that Bernard would struggle as well if we were going from back to front, as we were a lot in that first half.

It wasn't particularly a tactical thing, I think at times our players just reverted to type because Schneiderlin wasn't offering an outball for the defence, and Gana isn't exactly great on the ball.

So we ultimately ended up just passing it aimlessly before Pickford went long.

Hopefully Gomes coming in will change that.

Gylfi did play well last season once he got fit and had settled. It's a myth that he didn't. We suffered after he got injured (Rooney in particular).

Just like it's wrong to say DCL didn't have a good season.

It's hard to compare them as DCL is a young player making his breakthrough and Gylfi is an established player that we overpaid for.

In relative terms, DCL had the better season because of the factors I name above. Less was expected of him than Gylfi.

Hugely. For some reason this site seems to have a lot of people who purposes forget the decent games he had for us at the back end of last season although I can't really blame them for purposesly forgetting the Sam era.

Thought he was worryingly peripheral for the period he was on the pitch. Would still rather see Walcott dropped to make room for Bernard though, not least because Walcott could be a great impact sub.
