..those more central deep areas are so difficult to hit dangerous free kicks from but he invariably puts the ball right on the button.

Hoping with Richarlison and Bernard we might start getting free kicks in threatening positions around the edge of the penalty area. I can hardly remember us getting any last season.
yea, I think Richarlison was the most fouled player in the league last season, and I can see someone tricky like Bernard drawing a few. Great with Siggi supplying decent deliveries, will be interesting to see how Mina will do. Even if he doesn't score, he'll drag a few defenders out of position!

Or having a half-decent pre-season and playing in a team that has a style and system and a manager who knows how he wants to play?

Pre season was dreadful and nothing more than getting them all match fit.

His place is potentially up for grabs for the first time since he`s been here.

Let`s see if he can keep it up, before we start going all @RickyRider on him.

His biggest problem isn't consistency. He's very consistent.

He was poor in his first 10 games for us last season. From November onwards he was extremely consistent until his injury in March.

He wasn’t consistent for Swansea or spurs or us, little flashes then sinks into his hole and disappears for weeks. It’s the main reason I didn’t want him here and it was proven

I don’t know what person you’ve been watching, and if you think those performances for us after November were consistently good then there is no point in discussing this

Nope, can’t see the word good in Bluetoff’s post

..I can see Mina being a real threat, his goal scoring record is very decent.

You’ve just said that Hazard Ozil and Eriksen don’t run games and said that Gylfi doesnt ether but that they are completely different players? I agree with you they are different in that the others go past players, run the attacks of their teams and lay on chance after chance in open ply as well as dropping deeper to dictate play when needed. Gylfi seems to be ok at pressing (but not that good because he’s not as quick as a Kante or even a mad dog like Henderson), he seems to be ok at creating chances, and he looks like he offers an ok goal threat. For me this is the Fellaini argument all over again, yeah he did ok at number 10 but none of the top teams would have a player of that profile at 10 and I think it’s the same with Siggurdson. In isolation he’s ok but at times a turgid Southampton team put us under pressure easily and we seemed to squander possession so easily in the final third.

Hazard doesn't 'run' a game in the way that Silva does.

Ozil hasn't run a game since 2012.

Eriksen could probably do it but he's at his best in the final third with quick, sharp passing - which is why I said in style Gylfi is more akin to a smart price Eriksen than a Hazard or Ozil, or even a Silva, who is the only player out of those you listed that can make a game tick.

And again though you're comparing him to Kante and Henderson - he's not like either of them?

He's a good player in and around the final third. He works hard defensively and has the quality to create chances like he did for the Walcott disallowed goal and the sitter.

Mate, you've had an agenda since we signed him. Fine, whatever. I agree entirely he was utter tripe for a good two months.

From November onwards he was good. Excellent in flashes, but not enough.

He played very well on Saturday, hopefully he keeps that up.

He had a preseason though, which he didn't last year. He was training but not playing games. His first 5 games with us was pretty much his preseason in terms of getting sharp in-game.

It's a bit like Walcott. He still looks iffy at times because he's having to play catch up, but fortunately it's not in a team that have no idea or tactics, as it was this time last year.

He’s not comparable with any of the top attacking midfielders in the league whichever way you want to compare it. If we’re praising him for his pressing then it’s not as good as the top pressing midfielders in the league either. The old GOT trick of making a player lool better by removing him from any category that offers a comparison ‘he’s not a forward he’s a midfielder, he doesn’t control the game he’s more of a forward’ etc.

He’s a decent attacking midfielder who makes up for his lack of pace with some intelligence on the ball. He also works quite hard and has a good set piece. Anything over this assessment is in my eyes going overboard on him. My hope is that Bernard or Lookman in the long term could come in at ten and offer far more to our attacking game.

I agree to a point, but some people on here seem to think that he`s a world class game changer, which he isn`t.

It looks like Silva has put a rocket up him tbh, either that or he`s trying that little bit harder, as he knows potentially he could be benched in the very near future or both.
