2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

45 mil should buy you a hell lot more than just 'pretty good' and I'd even argue against him being that, he's had next to no standout influence on our side. And let's have it right he's had no say whatsoever in whether we are or aren't sitting on the relegation fence, oumars had much more of a say as has Jordan Kirkland

It's mad that even during the last few weeks where we've been pretty drab, not once have I actually been watching us and thought "you know who we miss, Gylfi Sigurdsson".

Let's face it, we essentially paid a "relegation tax" on him because Swansea knew they'd be in deep trouble if they let him leave as he was a big contributor to their previous survival, and lo and behold they've been rotten this season and are only just clinging on with their star man missing

His importance to his parent club was what ultimately pushed up his fee, that combined with the ludicrous inflation brought in by the TV money

Transfer fees are going to crash in the next couple of years when the bubble bursts, mark my words

Again, I don't think of him as a 45 Million Pound player, because he isn't, and I don't think it's fair to judge him based on the fee

Salah went for less because he was coming from outside the league and clearly the parent club didn't feel they needed him as much as Swansea needed Gylfi

Siggy hasn't had an amazing season, but none of our team have

The fact my player of the season is Jordan Pickford says it all really. We've been mince and there's been no stability

He's shown me enough to think he can still come good for us. Only 28, so only just reaching his prime. Get a new manager in who actually has a clue and then see how he does would be my suggestion

He's a decent player IMO, and hopefully next season he'll get a chance to show it

Well, there are plenty that have said that. You'd have to be pretty blind to think our midfield has been anything but dire.

The last decent game we played was the BHA game and not surprisingly, Sigurdsson was in there for that one.

Only 28? He's reached his peak, we know what he's capable off and it was never and will never be good enough for what we were aspiring to

There was always a chance he'd be Morata who has failed to make much of an impact.

Exactly

It was a unique circumstance, as it was with Gylfi

Not every transfer story is the same

Swansea set their price because they knew how bad it would be for them to lose him, and Koeman, for better or worse, decided he wanted him. At that point the price was always going to be what it was

We haven't seen the best of Sigurdsson yet, and most players would struggle to gain traction in the sort of season we've had

My advice is to put away the pitchforks and give him a chance next season

Anyone remember Fellaini? He was AWFUL when he first got here, and everyone thought we'd signed a dud, but he ended up being a great signing once he'd had time to settle in. Players can bounce back from rocky starts, it happens all the time, and I think Siggy could be one of those players

Our midfield has been dire all season, because we barely have anyone that actually plays in midfield. Sigurdsson when he plays is advanced or out wide. He's just been replaced with Bolasie and the make up of the midfield is the same - crap and unbalanced with no energy or creativity.

Morata still has a less than 1 in 3 scoring record which isn't bad going for his first season in this league in a disjointed set up and not always been a starter

£60 mil for 11 league goals for the Champions of England.

Nobody could have guaranteed Salah would have the impact he's had. Quite frustrating really. First Torres, then Suarez, and now Salah. They've had plenty off misses as well, but we've managed only one big hit in that same time frame. And a portion of our fans still don't rate Rom haha.

They'll at least see the majority of their money back, we'd be lucky to get half for sig

The problem with Sigurdsson is the huge fee, the player has done quite well in a difficult season and being shoved from one position to another.... but not 45m worth.

Koeman/Walsh made it clear that not only was he the main target but also the only target and there is only one way that was ever going to end... us getting hosed.

I think he can be very effective for us again next season and possibly better than this season depending on manager and formation. I think the best he can ever hope for is being value for money, but with the way prices have inflated, who can say?
