I look forward to seeing the title of this thread being changed to "Johnny Heitinga has left the building" and good luck to him and for the World Cup.

Disappointing to release him solely to release wages.

We've managed his situation terribly - should have been sold a while back.

I'm not sure if this isn't necessary to get mcgeady in unfortunately. We may be 'stable' financially so we don't have to sell but I highly doubt we can get someone in without either selling or losing wages in some way

He sowed the seeds of doubt when he made his getting on a bike to Barcelona comment a few years back.

He had one good half season and then began to sh*t out of tackles. Then he was prepared to sit on the bench and pick up a huge wage and run his contract down instead of knuckling down and trying to get into the first team. When he did get his chance because of injury or suspension he blew it - several times.

Mercenary, but not the first Dutch player at Everton to be one it must be said. Cheers Shandy.

Nah you have got a few of them the wrong way round I think. His good spell came after the pulling out of tackles. I think thats just his style anyway.

And he wasnt happy at sitting on the bench collecting his wages at all. He had said a few times that we should either sell him before his contract runs down or let it run because he wants to move at the end of it. I think thats fair enough too.

I doubt he blew his chances on purpose. He is obviously a player who needs a consistent run. I also think he revels in having a bit of responsibility, I remember him being boss when Duffy was in the team, guiding him through games and all that.

As I said earlier, yeah hes went crap for us, its a shame as I do think hes a good player but I think he has been fully professional throughout his time with us and hope he does well for West Ham or whoever he joins.

Just not against us obviously....

Nah he was pulling out tackles both before AND after his decent spell.

Of course he didn't purposely blow his chances but he didn't exactly bust a gut when he got one.

He never 'got' Everton and saw us a stepping stone to somewhere else. The public comments were designed to keep the fans on board while he picked up his huge wages for doing nothing. Funny how he now wants first team football in a WC year...

This quote sums it up well:

Never appeared to want to be one of us, genuinely.

You can tell Gareth Barry wants to be here, whereas Heitinga was just a mercenary who was good at playing twitter.

This. Good move for us. I wouldn't be too shocked to see hibbo, Jelavic and possibly Baines (if he puts a request in) go too.

Can't see anyone wanting Hibbo. Agree about the other two. The way the Fellaini thing worked out though, no player is agitating for a move on the cheap. So impressed with RM.

Anybody who's on decent wages and not in our plans should be jettisoned really.

Heitinga, Gueye etc are just not playing at all so we need to get rid. Doesn't really matter how much we get.

This is it, pretty much. We need £££ for a striker.

Everyone is wanting Tony Hibbert. He is very expensive buy. Only big club could afford.

It's all sounding a bit RAWK....can't we just pat him on the back, wish him well and show our appreciation when he returns with West Ham.....never did anything particularly wrong. Simply, he's a footballer and they move clubs....he has no loyalty because it's just a job.
I'm more interested in who we replace him with.

Yep. Agreed.
