Crack-fuelled Corbyn tries to kidnap William and Kate

Chilcot comes out next Wednesday, and it looks like Bercow has upheld Corbyn as the leader of the opposition.

They will be filling their collective trousers at the thought of the response he will give to the report (which if its in any way honest is going to slate Blair and his government), which probably explains part of the reason why they have been so desperate to get him to quit quickly. What will make it worse is that the rebels have all just flounced out of the Shadow Cabinet, so they won't have any influence over what he is going to say nor will they be able to do what they did over Syria and sabotage his position - plus of course they have just spent several days attacking him.

"They that show the wind, they shall reap the whirlwind" perhaps sums up what is likely to follow.

This coup had been planned from day 1 mate. They don't want Corbyn to win for a variety of reasons. Partly as a message to the membership and socialists as it would give them hope. Partly as they hate what he stands for. Partly because it won't be in their own economic self interest. He's essentially showing up their strategy.

They always thought they would get longer to coup him. The crisis of the Tories and potential of an election within 6 months means they had to act. It looks desperate to me now.

If Corbyn can win this fight it will be the makings of him and he will be a very credible and serious force going forward.

It was part of the Tory manifesto and was welcomed by the people. There was already dissatisfaction with EU prior to that election. In keeping with pledge the referendum was called by him because he was the Prime Minister. IT could have been anyone in Government if they were the PM at that time. You and Hull are consumed with hatred for DC and cannot see the wider picture. The fact is the vote was called for, as I see it you were in the remain camp and are upset. So time to throw toys out of the pram because it did not go your way but it did for 52% of the people.

As a PM you don't call elections on issues of such importance of you are a strong leader. Especially not to pacify your own MPs irrespective of some popular demand for a referendum. It was a stupid manoeuvre. That in no way links to the result though.

If he can last until next Wednesday, and then take advantage of the opportunity that Chilcot should offer, he should do well.

He does have failings as a leader - not least that he failed to either deal with or crush the PLP - and he does need to fix them quickly.

Meanwhile, the PLP are trying to seize control of the Labour brand:

Labour rebels keen to oust Jeremy Corbyn are investigating whether they would have a legal case for using the party’s name if they formed a breakaway group in parliament, and have set up a website to try to gain support of “moderate” members.

“It comes down to what would be the legalities around retaining the name ‘the Labour party’,” one MP told the Guardian, in the latest evidence that Corbyn’s detractors are ready to use every weapon in their armoury in the escalating war in the party.

As Corbyn’s spokesman urged dissident Labour MPs to trigger a leadership challenge – which they still believe he would win – the growing band of MPs who have resigned from the shadow cabinet, or refused to serve in the first place, are considering their next move.

Some believe they can pursue the solution advocated by Harold Wilson’s press secretary, Joe Haines, in a New Statesman article earlier this year, in which MPs would form their own separate grouping and claim to represent the Labour party.

A Saving Labour campaign has been set up, aimed initially at persuading moderate members of the public to email their MPs and urge them not to back Corbyn but which could ultimately be used to sign up thousands of £3 contributors who would join in order to vote for an alternative candidate.
