Sorry boys but i would not support it do you think the Red [Poor language removed] would do the same if it was the blues ,i don,t think so.Are we going soft.(n)

I'll bite my tongue.

All I'll say is that you're everything that's wrong with football atm.

I think they would do the same if it was Everton. We should do whatever needs to be done to send a message of support to Liverpool and anyone else that deserves recognition for what went on on that dreadful day.

Anyone who was stupid enough to be out of order about it would be very silly indeed . Imagine it , Evertonians have been on the piss all day long . Everyone has been having a good old sing song in good spirits . The flag is rolled out . Emotions would be running very high . My uncle was there as was his best mate Mad Alan who ended up in Sheff general with crush injuries . Its these two people I will have firmly in my thoughts .

As Necro once " If you think talking out your arse is great , you ll get drastic hate "

Everton are bigger than a handfull of tickturds who cannot grow up for 5 minutes

Think it's probably a good idea, next to the banner though should be another banner remembering the 39 fans who didn't return home from a football match in Brussels(Hysel) 1985.

Some of the Reds I have spoken to seem to think that this is just a publicity stunt by the Blues,
dear God, spare me from these people who see ulterior motives in every act.....

but those individuals were in their twenties and don't remember the tragic event. Those that do remember it have a completely different view and have said, yes, good idea, about time we stopped some of the hatred etc etc.

That day is like the 'I can remember exactly where I was when....'

watching the tragedy unfold and thinking about people I knew who might be there, thinking about joking with someone who was going and saying that they'd have a crap day out because they'd lose.
Fortunately, they did get home unscathed physically but to my knowledge, never went to a game again.

Yes, there are some real whoppers who say stupid things about people dying and the fear of those total idiots spoiling things should not stop this happening.

Everyone thought that the City fans would cause trouble at the Munich anniversay but the behaviour was impeccable. Events like that have shown that people do pull together when called upon to do so. This could well be such an event.
IF we get to the semi's -fantastic...
but perhaps some show of support for those who died on that day may be fitting in any game we play around the date.

I don't think that's necessary. The flag is very specifically coming out because it's the anniversairy year, being bitter about Heysel while paying respects to those Liverpool fans that died doesn't seem very respectful to me.

i don't want to get involved with this debate too much, but i just want to point out that many liverpool fans used to sing about Munich when they played united, so to say that all of them would do the same for us may not be true. of course, that did occur at a time when football and particularly football fans behaved very differently than they do now. i don't think how they would react is relevant, as blues i think we should set an example by behaving better.

if we were to get to the final, and it was against united, does anyone think a banner might provoke some of the scummier united fans to sing about hillsborough, i would hate for the banner intended to honur the fans to lead to further disgrace.

That sums up alot of the bitterness that exists at Everton. FFS let it go (n)

Ay?

Why is he is being bitter?

Why is it bitter to also remember the 39 fans who equally lost their lives attending a football match?

He makes a very valid point.

Lost me there lads.

Because given our history with bitching about Heysal and how it cost us all sorts of things, and the constant screams and shouts of "murderers" at the RS faithful, it would come across as getting one over them rather than a gesture of good will and respect.

Now I'm not saying the 39 shouldn't be remembered, but that's something Liverpool need to organise, not us given our current poor relationship with them.

See, now your contradicting everything that has been said in this thread of somethings being more important than football. How on earth it would come across as "getting one over them" is beyond me.

To call the poster bitter is pathetic. Maybe say it would be unwise given how some could interpret it but at the end of the day, if people choose to interpret an underlying message to remembering the dead then thats their issue, their problem. You could argue people would say the same with Hillsborough? - The lad genuinely could think it would be an idea. You know, forgetting football for a moment to remember football fans who died for attending a football match.

People know that we are genuinely sympathetic about the disaster at Hillsborough. Even the RS fans say some wonderful things about the way Everton came out and offered their support. Hillsborough unites the city. In contrast, Heysal divides the city. It has been used by a small section of Everton fans to score points from our neighbours. No matter how earnest we might be in organising something to commemorate it, it would cause strife and unrest. So better to leave that can of worms unopened, at least until the relationship between the two clubs is more mature.

I agree with what your saying, but my point is, the poster shouldn't be called bitter for making the suggestion.

Strange that a person can recieve bad rep for not supporting Hillsborough or a move to Kirkby etc, but no bad rep is given to those that slate Jade Goody etc, a dying woman. I will not be supporting Hillsborough, that does not mean i dont feel for those that lost there lives and the grieving families. It also does not mean that i would be against, nor stand in the way of those that do support it. The city of Liverpool should have been more united after the tradgedy but too much of a minority unglued the strong bond with ludicrous statements such as claiming they never sang Merseyside, Merseyside along with us Blues. Bad rep this post if you wish, but at the end of the day, i am not the one with the problem here.
