Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

They have huge global support and still one of the biggest worldwide 'brands'

However their success does not match this, think of the other global brand clubs they compete with - barca, man utd, Chelsea, real Madrid...all still winning titles

I think this is why so many of their fans are so weird, they cannot cope with being this massive brand and not winning anything

The champs league win 12 years ago made it worse, they gained more glory fans and the current fans were fooled into believing this would be a regular thing...when it was a one off

I agree mate. They have this self entitled issue as well, as if it’s their divine right to be able to beat everyone and sign players from who they like, but can’t take it when they lose or a player moves to a bigger club.

Matt Le Tissier has been getting dogs abuse for saying it’s horrible being a feeder club about the Coutinho transfer. To be fair he’s been shooting them down well though.

Defo ban coming to Fermino. Just seen the replay on MOTD, the camera angle used leaves no doubt, the incident wasn't discussed, because the FA are dealing with it.

The FA have confirmed the investigation and the three man independent panel....Danny Murphy, John Aldridge and Luis Suarez.

Can't say fairer than that.

In all seriousness the FA and the Professional Match Officials integrity is massively at stake here if they try and wipe it under the carpet. I expect they'll give Firminio a watered-down charge and 3 match suspension and, to minimise the reaction from Liverpool, they'll give Holgate a three-match ban for the push. For them, that will feel like a justified outcome, whereas if the abuse is proven to be racist it would be a totally unacceptable ill-judged outcome.

They have a new camera angle ? Becuse the one on the broadcast leaves tons of doubt, Kennys head is in the way when the word is supposedly said.

I've just watched motd and could only see the angle where Kenny's head is obstructing the view of Firmino's mouth for the crucial part

I don't expect everyone to have noticed this yet but if you take a look at Holgate's eyes just as Kenny's head enters the frame you can clearly see the reflection of Firmino denying the holocaust.

The issue is that they have to prove it , I despise racism and I can’t stand RS but there has to be due process on this and there is a system in place .

Unfortunately, and we’ve seen this before with Emre that the evidence has to be compelling and it doesn’t take much for minor discrepancies to be used to acquit at the FA panel . Also don’t forget Duncan was accused of racism by Boa morte , so we have to let the matter take its course . Without video evidence to support it , third party evidence from the officials or somebody implicating themselves like Suárez I am concerned how it’ll play out .

I suppose we just have to be hopeful about the outcome and supportive for Mason because this is a horrific situation for him to find himself in, the RS and their media friends crucified Evra and his allegations were proven .

Holgate pushes Firmino into the crowd. Firmino reacts and runs towards Holgate saying something. Lallana and Kenny are both there as is Madley as Firmino and Holgate come together Madley as he gets in between the both of them. Holgate is not reacting, and is behind Madley with Kenny on one side and Lallana on the other. Then something else is said and Holgate reacts with Madley between the both, Kenny on one side and Lallana on the other. If Holgate heard something and reacted then Madley, Lallana and Kenny must have heard the same thing. What Firmino said would have been heard in Madley's mic and picked up by the fourth official. They consulted and no cards were produced.

There are 6 people that would have heard what had been said. Interesting to see what happens and how the rs dominated football media responds.

...and what they've done so far is to present it as something and nothing - both players culpable for 'a kerfuffle'.

All of which underlines why the club must make the running on this and not simply sit back and allow this to go unpunished.

Allardyce's post match response was pathetic. He swerved the issue.

Thing is Dave, any normal manager I'd agree. But on this occasion I'm glad Allardyce has kept his mouth shut. I always get the impression that every time he opens his mouth he could say something really stupid and embarrssing ( worse than calling Coleman Simon Coleman ).

So for this particular thing, yep, step back old timer and let others deal with it. If Koeman was still manager or Unsworth and so on then yeah I would have wanted them full on kick off mode straight after the match because by then everyone will have known what has been said

Mason, according to FA rules, can't be banned for the push. The officials saw it at the time and took appropriate action.

I can't remember if a free kick was given, but even if not then the referee deemed it not worthy of penalising.

If the referee claimed he didn't see any push and thus allow the FA to ban our player, then he shouldn't be allowed to ever officiate a game again.

Who’d have thought a Mirror journalist on Sunday supplement saying that we’ve seen everything that was said on the footage bigging up the use of a lip reader , that seems at odds with Kenny’s head being in the way which is what I saw .
