Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

Haha what attitude is that ? Waiting and seeing what happens, maybe getting all the facts first ? Before you burst in with all guns blazing, to what is a very sensitive issue.
Ah it really is the Jeremy Kyle age nowadays.
He could have at least backed Holgates character.

He won't get a ban. He won't even get a telling off.

The push into the crowd is irrelevant.
If removing the blue-tinted glasses then it really isn't irrelevant: he was lucky to not get at least a yellow card for a pretty silly push.

Furthermore, while I do not personally think it's a red I understand why some people would claim it was violent conduct and worthy of a red.

If there's no punishment for Firmino then I think it'll be brushed under the carpet, yet if there is then I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a ban too.

He should.

Do any of us really think for one second that if one of their players had said they'd been racially abused that Klopp wouldn't have been holding court post match for 30 minutes going through it blow by blow and looking to get Liverpool's way?

I think you are correct in what you say about Klopp, he would have been on shouting the odds. But then the moral high ground would have been cut from beneath him given Liverpool's record on this matter.
I don't like Fat Sam and I look forward to the day he, and his cronies, are sacked but I do feel he is handling this situation correctly. Defend your player at the appropriate hearing, go into that hearing with all your research done and all guns blazing. Don't have your arguments and their defence rehearsed in the press before you get in front of the FA
If the FA bottle it then turn to the court of public opinion.

He could have at least backed Holgates character.
That itself could have its own potential pitfalls. What if it's released that their player says otherwise, or even worse the referee says the opposite?

You're then pushing yourself into a position, where you won't want to back down from, where you're challenging an officials honesty and integrity.

Or we're getting into a tit-for-tat affair with the FA or those lot in their big tin shed? Holgate's and the club's character will be under extra scrutiny.

I'm pretty sure the club would have explained that Sam et al. should remain professional and hold their cards against their chests'.

As @Caolam mentions, back Mason in private, work tirelessly behind the scene to build a strong case and then act resolutely during any hearing.

All that just from saying he's a good lad?

Yes I’ve seen those claims - all rebutted.

All incorrect.

No Blue would ever mock H’boro, we’ve always stood side by side over that and they know it.
There are a small minority of idiots, but they are just that. Most of us have a bit more empathy. Blues lost friends and family as well, one of the HJC founders is a blue and it's worth remembering that if the draw had been different and we'd got Forest instead of Villa, 96 Everton fans would have died instead. I've certainly never seen Everton fans mocking Hillsborough, it's more the sort of thing Man United fans do. Heysel, maybe. Hillsborough, no.

It's a bit rich when the same people who cry about Hillsborough make Munich jokes, though. Plane dances, etc. Hillsborough is not funny. Neither is Munich. There's banter and then there's outright cruelty.

Rightly or wrongly yes, as it can quite easily set a precedent. By saying he is a nice lad implies you are publicly supporting him in his claim.

Oh he's a nice... so he wouldn't make it up? That implies either it was said, thus going against Liverpool and maybe the ref, or he was mistaken.

If Holgate's claim is then countered we're in a difficult position as we either maintain defending him, or do you then publicly admit he was wrong?

It could easily become an unnecessary snowball effect whereby we are backed into an uncomfortable corner - like I said, all preventable.

You can see that they've done the very same thing... 'we'll fully comply with any FA investigation... no further comments during the investigation'

Hold your tongue, support our player in the background (like I think they'll do with theirs) and deal with it through the appropriate channels.

No harm in doing both.

I don't agree with you, sorry. If Allardyce goes out and backs his character then the emphasis shifts from the incident to Holgate/Allardyce having to defend his character. Have I not already seen stuff about Holgate's past and homophobic opinions. The scum who pollute the popular press will then feel they have free license to print whatever they like about the lad because Everton have made his character an issue.
We need the concentrate on the matter at hand, did Can racially abuse Holgate. Holgate doesn't need defending, he is the wronged party.
