Off to the USA this year for 3 weeks. Got family in NJ so will be spending most of my time around NY/NJ, but will fuk off on my own somewhere for a week or so. Any recommendations? Considering 1 of LA, Nashville, Memphis, Austin so far. I won't have a car or anything.

Also, any less well-known recommendations of things to do in NY would be gratefully received ;)

Anyone know what the weather is like in inland Mexico during July and August? Guadalajara, Guanajuato, San Cristobal and Oaxaca. I´ve been told to expect showers but enough to ruin my time there? Thought I´d be more worried about the cartels than the weather in all honesty.

Booked to go to Cape Verde for 10 nights in June before pre-season for my coaching work kicks back in. Still have 13 days holiday to use this year. Normally go to Germany towards the back end of the year. Wouldn’t mind going on a weekend jaunt somewhere but the moneys always the issue.

I was in Tokyo in October, circumstance sort disrupted our time there so don't think I got the most out of it. But it's an ace city. Kyoto is ace too but there is a danger of overdose on temples if you stay there too long.

How long are you there for? We spent 2 nights in Hiroshima and regretted not spending more there. The city is interesting and there are lots of things to do in the surrounding region (e.g. Miyajima island). It's quite far from Tokyo though.

Nikko was pretty impressive too if you're sticking close to Tokyo.
I'm going for three weeks mate. I'm looking to do as much as I can in that time. I'm lucky to be traveling with friends who've been before and have a fairly decent grasp of the language (I'm trying to learn the basics myself). Can't wait. I don't normally get this excited about holidays but Japan and Tokyo in particular is a place that i've always wanted to visit so I'm really looking forward to it.:)

Should be awesome with people who know the place well and the language mate, you'll get much more out of it than otherwise no doubt ;)

Last years thread was closed down, so here we go...

I need a small bit of advice as we're looking to book a holiday. Has anyone ever done a fly and camp holiday in the french alps with a child younger than 1?
We are hoping to go at the end of June early July for about 13 nights.
a few questions
1 - did it end up being expensive as you couldn't bring all the 'stuff'?
2 - was the holiday suitable for the toddler?
3 - if doing it again would you do anything different?

thanks in advance
looking forward to hearing where other Blues are heading.

Haven't read all replies but in case it is of interest. A while back (15 odd years) we took the kids to Keycamps sites (for several years running) which are caravans or tents all equipped and ready to use. We went mostly to Brittany or the Vendee and took the car on the ferry. It worked well. Kids where not as young as yours though. Main thing we found was that camp site pools got very busy at sites that were not on a beach. Don't know if this is a concern for you.

Have a good one...

no worries, thanks for the input
we've booked a week in a small chalet on a campsite in the alps with an indoor pool and a hotel onsite too
if we don't feel like hiking or being out and about, we can just laze around
just have to figure out where to go for the second week!
flying into geneva, car hire for two weeks

Just booked three trips.

Cape Town/Stellenbosch/Blue Train to Pretoria then game reserve near Kruger.

Bordeaux River Cruise

Montenegro

Feeling rather chuffed with them, and with being organised and putting work on the back-burner for once.
