The disappointment has been Carlo's lack of flexibility. The game has moved on rapidly in the last four or five years. I think it is becoming pretty clear that Carlo hasn't. He still wants to play a cautious outdated 4-4-2.

He sets us up to be solid and cautious and hope the front two magic up a goal out of nothing. It isn't too bad against the bigger teams. We stay in games, look to nullify the opposition and hope to nick a result. Unfortunately that doesn't work when the emphasis is on us to break teams down.

Our last three home games have been against Southampton, Villa and Bournemouth. Our inability to break teams down has seen us take 2 points from those 3 games. That simply isn't acceptable. Continue like that next season, and we will be in a relegation fight.

As I said earlier the game has moved on. It is all about being able to dominate possession, put the opposition on the back foot, break them down and score goals. Stating that Carlo hasn't got his own players in is a feeble excuse. If he does get his own players in we will be recruiting players that fit for a cautious 4-4-2.

Then if it doesn't work out we will be stuck with players that other clubs do not want. That is what we have done over and over again. Carlo has been an excellent manager, but he is on the slide. He was sacked by Madrid so he dropped down a level to Bayern. When he was sacked by Bayern he dropped to Napoli, now he has dropped down to Everton. His career certainly isn't going forwards.

Why do we continually spend big on individuals who are in decline.

He's done as well as any manager could be expected too really. Definitely got it wrong a couple of times but before lockdown we managed some impressive victories mainly because of his tactical nous.

We need to back him, he's the first manager we've had for a while who I truly believe has a substantial long-term idea and knows how to build a great team, if we get the players he tells us to get.

Worth pointing out that for all his career success he hadn't managed in this country for over a decade. He needed to see certain things for himself to know what's in store for next season, hence why his first 6 months should be viewed as one long pre-season.

Carlo left Chelsea in 2011 and joined Everton in 2019. That isn't over a decade.

Unfortunately he makes some good points.

I do think Carlo is flexible, he just believed he had two strikers who would get goals so based his team around this for now.

Let’s see what the summer brings

I don't think ANY Evertonian is happy right now, but I am not unhappy at Ancelotti. It isn't his team. I'm unhappy at the club, the board, the recruitment from Steve Walsh and (yes) even Marcel Brands. We've been a joke. Liverpool signed Mo Salah for £25 million. Let that sink in people. We paid the same for Michael Keane and almost double that for Sigurdsson. We've been ripped off and taken advantage of by clubs who realise we have deeper pockets than them. Will Ancelotti succeed? Right now, I highly doubt it.

Hi mate, why have you taken the time out of your life to write such a long post on a bloke who doesn’t manage the team you support on another teams forum?

End of the day the team he has got at the moment he must of thought 4-4-2 was the strongest they could play, there is nothing wrong with 4-4-2 if you have the right team to do it with. The team we have at the moment is shocking and could you imagine us playing 4-3-3 with what we have? The midfield is walked through when there is 4 players in there, imagine a 3 man midfield we would be beaten every game.

once he brings in some of his own players he will be more flexible with his formations, and if he sticks to 4-4-2 and keeps winning or not loosing games i guess we’ll all be happy.

So do you want Roberto or Silva instead?

Let’s face it. We are hoping that Ancelotti succeeds here. He has no track record of doing this so please spare me the he can do no wrong BS. We have a DOF that has failed so far and a manager that has to prove himself at this level.
That’s what every other football fan in the country is thinking.

Has no track record of doing what? He’s virtually managed 4 months of football at the club with a team of duds that aren’t even his.

I don’t think anyone has said he’s immune from criticism, anyone with a semi functioning brain and bit of perspective would know now is not the time to be judging him.

I honestly think some of our fans are absolutely thick. Its like they don’t watch the performances of our players, incapable of doing the basics they’re assigned to do, incapable of going the extra mile and getting stuck in because they can’t be arsed. These aren’t things that any manager can change, unless you’ve got the squad big enough to replace the duds. This is a permanent mental mind set for a large amount of individuals at this club and until they’re shown the door and moved on or replaced things aren’t gonna get much better. Doesn’t matter what manager we have in charge.

So far there are only a couple of folks who can expect to be smitten by Groucho for voting No. Most are well prepared to give Carlo sufficient time and money to have a clear out and a splash of money. There is no serious alternative.

So you would have kept Silva?

I agree completely. He needs time. It’s just how it’s relayed on here which has made me play devils advocate a bit. I mean some managers get impacts. I am fully behind him because I like the guy and his track record is far better than anyone else we could attract. I’m just saying that he does not have a track record of building a club up from where we are now of late. His past successes are not very recent and he’s been pushed out of his last three clubs. That doesn’t mean to say I don’t back him. It just means that I question people going down the route of “everything this manager does is right and he can do no wrong” attitude. A football club is made up of so many people now making decisions it’s hard to get them all right.
If Carlo was to achieve success at Everton it would be a far cry from anything he’s achieved in the last ten years and he needs to be as hungry and ambitious as the players we buy
