What do I think a man who has won multiple league titles, domestic and European cups who knows all about motivation has said to our gutless, unambitious, team of duds? I’m not sure?

I do agree that most of this squad will be here again next season. I do believe this job is going to be a lot bigger for him than he expected. I honestly don’t think he envisioned the team of gutless rats he was going to end up with.

It doesn’t bode well that most of the current crap will be here again next season but what do you do about that? Sack him off and bring in your flavour of the month? He will bring his own players in and eventually the deadwood will be pushed out, for those who are expectin instant success I suggest you stick to FIFA or football manager. It doesn’t happen like this in real life. Our current squad is the worst we’ve had in 20 odd years. Years of throwing big money on average unambitious shyte hawkes have set us back massively and until they’re all eventually pushed out there’s not going to be massive change in our approach to games. This isn’t an easy job, it will take time but we have the right man to guide us to success.
Believe me I really hope he can,but the fact he's been successful with decent teams with by and large top players makes me nervous for the future. Not that Ancelotti is at fault, more that Brands and Co have appointed the wrong type of manager for the squad we have.

Some players have played far too often for my liking.
Some players should never have played for the club again after losing to their youth team at Anfield.
I worry that he kept playing these players and made them captain at times.

He needs full control over the choice of players for two transfer windows to see whether he'll work here. If Brands is orchestrating matters, then no manager will make a go of it.

I thought he settled the team into a decent organisation at the start of his reign. And then could see how he was trying to expand our game attack wise but could see that there was some calculated gambles in doing so. I have to say that some of those gambles didn't pan out, and he's been let down by a lack of quality that can't be assigned to him. If he'd have been more cautious and nicked a few more points ultimately we'd probably be in the same position and he'd know less about the players than he does now. During the asterisk, he gave the players under him all the opportunity they needed but all that has been exposed are the players' abilities and personalities which are severely lacking.

However, at the moment I am happy with Ancelotti. He has performed his non-footballing role very well, and dealt with the asterisk part of the season professionally. On the field, I can see what he is doing and until he gets the right quality of player in then he is going to be fighting a losing battle. He has too many weak spots in the team for just one transfer window to sort out. If he can get to the Europa League positions next season, then he'll have done exceptionally well. But 2 or 3 midfielders, a decent attacker, a decent striker and a new keeper is what is required.

Very much a free pass from me up to now. If this was a book, he's just produced the preface that only the dedicated would read. Now comes the time to actually find out what he is going to do.

Doubt he will be offered a new contract at this stage?

I don't agree on all but I support a lot of what you say ,I think that early on a lot of them have realised that they wont be wanted as Carlo has shown them in one way or another .I don't think the team overall is as bad as the results and I believe that when some new blood is here there will be a dramatic improvement .I think he could well bring a his own Captain to show the way .I wasn't trying to suggest he was in any way unsatisfactory quite the opposite .
We will all see as the window unfolds and I for one can't wait .
Next season will be much better and I would not at all be surprised to see us with a trophy and European football ,just because that is what Carlo wants and he has the club in his heart .
Hold on lads and lasses the change is a comin'.
Hope you are right, but it may well be out of his hands, too many on big contracts who are determined to stay and give minimum effort.

Problem is Dave the number of players who will be impossible to move on.

I agree in time that will be the case but I just don’t see any drastic improvement next season as the current nucleas of the team will still be here. I just don’t see there being a complete overhaul. I hope I’m proved wrong and the board (Brands) goes all out to fix the current mess. This has been years and years of poor team assembling that have led to this mess and it’s going to take some time to reassemble and bring in the right players with the right characters and right attitude to get us back amongst the top 6 again. I agree bringing in a new club captain would be a start.

Such a shame that you don't post as often as you used to.

Sometimes you talk great sense.
