How stupid are Manu?

Not such an absurd claim really, they were in the top four clubs in Europe for a while, but didn't invest the money they received for Ronaldo and screwed themselves considerably because of it. Their decline as a European force can really be traced back to the summer of 2009.

I'll take the alternate route: they're no doubt a big club, but their success is dependent largely upon Ferguson. Take away the honors he brought to the club and they look like a larger Aston Villa. Their fan base is filled with entitled, deluded, glory-hunting beauts, and their European "decline" is overstated and not dependent upon the Glazer takeover, which having occurred in 2005 still produced appearances in the CL final during 2008, 2009, and 2011. If there was any European decline, this was due to Ferguson, which was also the cause of their ascent.

Not really. Compare their spending to the others during that time.

Not interested in defending the Glazers, who may be crap owners. Nor comparing them against the Oligarchs that will sink £1Bn into their club or the state-sponsored Spanish sides. Those are unique situations and don't make useful comparisons.

To me a simpler comparison is this: what did Ferguson do before/after the Glazers took ownership?

In the 19 years he managed pre-Glazer, he won the League 8 times and made 1 Champions League Final, winning 1 Champions League.
In the 8 years he managed after the Glazers bought the club, he won the League 5 times and made 3 Champions League Finals, winning 1 Champions League.

It's not obvious to me how the Glazers limited the success of Ferguson at United, but it does look obvious that MUST's arguments are silly (and deluded, etc).

Louis van Gaal has warned David de Gea of how much he will lose should the goalkeeper leave Manchester United for Real Madrid, with fears growing that Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal may be his last game for the team as the Spaniard injured a hamstring. “I don’t think I can persuade him because he knows everything he has at Manchester United,” said Van Gaal after seeing Ander Herrera’s goal on 30 minutes cancelled out by a late Tyler Blackett own goal. “I don’t have to say something because he can feel it every day. You have seen the fans – unbelievable. When he is going, he is losing that. Here he has a lot of credits. He has to decide.”

De Gea was replaced after 74 minutes by Victor Valdés, who made his debut. Van Gaal signalled that United will not allow De Gea to leave without a fight. “He is from Spain and he has a Spanish girlfriend but the club won’t let him go easily.”

The 24-year-old goalkeeper’s contract expires in the summer of 2016 and he has yet to agree fresh terms worth a basic £150,000 a week offered by United. Despite the attractions for De Gea of moving to Real the decision is still proving difficult, Van Gaal said, evidence that the player may yet stay put. “You are asking things I cannot answer because I don’t know. I have also said a transfer is an individual thing. It is also a process,” the manager added. “He has to decide because we have given a fantastic contract because we want him to stay. Fantastic season, I think. “I analyse his position and then I say he is Spanish, he is Spanish international, still behind Iker Casilla. Now a Spanish club is coming, his girlfriend is Spanish, his father and mother come every week or every two weeks here, so it is difficult.”

Van Gaal claimed he has no knowledge whether Real have made a formal offer for De Gea. “I am not doing that kind of thing,” he said, while suggesting the goalkeeper will struggle to be fit for Sunday’s final match, the trip to Hull City. “His injury is a hamstring injury so it shall be difficult to play but you never know. Every player is difficult to replace,” said Van Gaal. “Every player has his contribution to the result.”

Today they dredged up all of their negative tweets about Fellaini from last season and inserted "Blackett" into them.

I don't have a high opinion of their overall fanbase in terms of football knowledge. Very scant.

Just reading Blackett's Redcafe thread prior to seeing your post - they are vicious with him aren't they! Poor lad is still young and in his first premier league season ffs.

When I saw the deflection, yeah, own goal but nothing like what they're crucifying him for.

I know I bang this drum alot but I thought Felli was very good again today, he's some player when his confidence is there. Regards young blackett, every single person who has ever played footy would try and make that block, its just one of them isn't it, hits the bottom of his soul and goes in
