I like Carrick too and I like Blind. They are neat and tidy players. But Barry has been underated, England should have had him at the world cup. He is the best English defensive midfielder and was central to Everton getting over 70 points last season.

Over time I think Besic will have more to his game than Blind. He is a better athlete, better at dribbling and better at tackling. I am not here to slate Blind, just to say he wouldn't get into our match day squad. If he fits United's system then that's great. His finish against West Brom was ok, but as much down to poor goalkeeping and positioning as it was the finish itself.

I can't imagine you still think Barry is better than Carrick. All Barry does is protecting the back, he makes zero contribution going forward. Carrick is probably the best central midfielder England have had after Scholes in last 20 years. Gerrard and Lampard aren't central midfielders for me, they are more like attacking midfielders with zero tactical discipline.

I can see what type of perception you have regarding central midfielders, for you athleticism is important.

Not really mate. It's just a figure of speech. Every side goes through good and bad patches and we're yet to hit one. Your lot are going through a good patch right now as a matter of fact. Which eggs you on to post this ' If's and but's ' reply. You can open your curtains again in the morning.

Using you as an example here, but that reply wouldn't of happened after being destroyed by MK Dons and Leicester a couple of months ago. It would of been hard, even for you to see Utd going on this current run after those embarrassing displays.

Michael Carrick 32 career goals
Gareth Barry 63 career goals.

Sit down you manc tramp.

I think that's a bit harsh, he's argued himself in a reasoned and decent way.

I suppose it just comes down to what you are looking for in a central midfield player and also what your side needs.

For Manchester United, a Carrick/Blind type player who is able to efficiently and effectively pass the ball to their better players Ronaldo/rooney/van Persie/Di Maria etc is going to be what’s needed. Carrick is the best at that and Blind is very good at it.

For us I think we need a bit more than that, and we need someone who can protect the back four a bit more, get their foot in and also probably get box to box a bit better.

It’s my own view that both Barry and Carrick have been underated by different England managers and fans alike. I stand by my view though that I’d rather have Barry over Blind for Saturday’s game. I think Besic will also develop into a more effective player for us. McCarthy and Barkley are already on another level to Blind.

He said ' going forward '.

That Barry just sits infront of the back four where as Carrick is better all round, including going foward. If Barry is this sitting midfielder as he seems to think he is, scoring double the amount of goals as Michael ' rampaging forward ' Carrick, puts his argument to bed really.

Going forward doesn't equal scoring goals, it's more about making the goals while being in deeper positions. The long range passing ability that Carrick has, Barry will never ever possess that.

Man Utd plays a possession based game where there needs a tactically aware player who can always hold the position. In England, Carrick is the best at that, Barry is nowhere near him at that. I remember Barry being overrun by Germans in WC2010, I have never seen Carrick having such a disastrous performance. If England had anyone close to Xabi Alonso, that's Carrick. Now, how many goals did Xabi Alonso score? Just 37. Does that mean he is worse than Gareth Barry?

We kept winning in his absence because of Carrick. Once he gets back, I'm sure our defense will be stronger because with Carrick and Blind they will have better protection. Yeah, for years, English people has been saying that about Barry and they kept on playing him in the national team instead of Carrick, with zero output.
.
Bit unfair to rate Barry based in his England displays, could dismiss quite a lot of United players if you used that criteria as well including your captain. About the only Englishman that has replicated his club form in recent years for England is Ashley Cole.
