If we want to replace like for like unfortunately we are limited to say Kante as the nearest to him as a ball winner, just can't see us buying Kante really. We desperately require another midfielder as it is. Selling Gana is only going to double that requirement, and that's not a good place to be in the middle of the season if the quality isn't there.

Fair enough, there is only one player in the league who dispossess players more than him (kante). No one else is even close I think.

Yes, his passing is very suspect but, for me, the amount of tackles and interceptions he makes totaly cover for this. He will be very hard to replace in a defensive sense and I think we will regret it for a while.

That’s how you see a midfielder, it’s more important in your eyes for the defensive midfielder to tackle and get about the pitch. And if Sam was manger or Moyes, they would probably think along the same lines.

But maybe Silva & Brands think differently. Interesting how silva talked about how important the number 6 position was in the summer and name checked Schneiderlin and not Gana. Obviously get a number 6 that’s more technical and doesn’t graft like gana, could have its draw backs with Gomes & Siggurdsson. And long term I think Silva wants play 433 with a technical number 6 and 2 box to box midfielders either side. Maybe doucoure being one.

If the rumours are true and the figures, it’s a no brainier for silva & Brands. I think silva wants more possession and this will only happen with better technical players.

Like I mentioned in November when a top 15 list came out of the top tacklers in the prem and Gana was top, not one player from the top 6 was on the list. Gana isn’t the only culprit who gives the ball away cheeply, but he’s one of the worst and like a few have mentioned half the time he’s trying to retrieve the ball he’s just given away.

to be honest is a gamble? centre mid s a crowded position there are so many options over the world to buy as a replacement to gueye ( it's not like finding a striker which is a lot harder )

were not finishing in the top 6, nor are we going down would it not be more sensible to do the deal now and bed a new player in for a few months so we can start next season with the new player ready? rather then starting the summer selling a first team player, then finding a player then bedding him in, having gueye now for 6months not arsed knowing he's going to PSG

One would assume that there is a replacement lined up. Brands is too smart simply to sell, unless his plan is in place to replace.
