We played very well at times in that first season. But the assuredness in attack wasn't there like it is now.

Perhaps we can say that the defence was played miles better then and the attack plays miles better now.

I leave it open to question what constitutes progress. For me. I like to see all out attacking football, so whilst I cringe at what goes on at the back at the moment, I swoon over the forward play.

Me too. That said I can't remember all out attack being particularly successful.

I appreciate a manager who can get the balance right. He's as off now as Moyes was at times, albeit in an opposite way.

If he realises he's got the balance wrong and rectifies it I'd be delighted. For some reason only e very best managers can do that and have the character to do something about it.

If he continues blindly then he's another run of the mill decent manager who can only play one way.

There's personnel and players available to make them changes. If he doesn't it's purely on him.
