Is everyone over reacting?

No mate, it’s a protest against the board and useless manager they are about to employ! He’s going to be one of the highest paid managers in world football!!!!!!!!!!! When he’s gone I will go the game again.

Not going is your own choice, I fully understand that. I barely go myself these days as i think it's a mugs game half the time.

Some people are saying they are jibbing off Everton completely though which is just daft.

Everyone from 9th downwards is in a relegation battle, really.

The thing is, most of those teams have strengths that they are playing to.

Brighton can defend well. Huddersfield mix it up. Southampton have some half-decent players. West Brom have strength.

We literally have f all atm with no set system or functioning way of playing.

I think there is like equal risk for me mate - I dont think anyone we hire right now is anything but a gamble.

Sam, because 1) I really dislike him, but 2) I dont think we have the squad capable of playing his way. I genuinely think he is a massive risk based on his record and what he statistically does at everyone of his clubs. He is a guarantee of nothing - it might have worked at others, why will it work at us.

Someone from abroad, they might not get the league, they might want different players.

The issue is the board should have been doing what they employed Walsh for - getting a template together for the club what we want to be, play like and who fits that template. then its easier to hire against and no-one can complain.

Its the fact its been so embarrassingly scattergun that its a joke.

Again, you make some valid points.

It's the idiots on here who don't that get my back up.

But the argument as to the boards potential ineptitude is a different one to whether Allardyce is the right man for the job.

I just feel we need to get real & understand the mess we really are in. Then perhaps we can look more pragmatically towards the appointment of Allardyce.

It isn't helping anyone calling him names, and writing him off before he's even been given a chance. And I'm not specifically aiming that at you by the way

Yes because we'll still only be five points clear more than likely even in that scenario.

And based on what has come before - you know, our recent 4-1 drubbing at a side that couldn't score for toffee (pardon the pun) and our three wins in 13 league games - that two successive wins are likely?

You'd like to think it's doable, but I have zero faith in this squad.

We'll be lining up with Martina, Jags, Williams, Kenny as a back 4.

Two are finished, 1 is a kid and 1 is awful.

We need them to be drilled into a unit with a solid base in front of them.

The pre-Jan games are the most important we have. We need 1 point a game average to keep in with a shout.

If Sam comes in and matches his Palace record we'll get 4 points in 8 games. Obviously they then went on a really good run but he won't come in and turn us around overnight.

No not at all. I'll say it for the 200th time, Allardyce wouldn't be my first choice BUT nobody else 'better' wants the job, otherwise we wouldn't still be searching for a manager 6 weeks after sacking Koemsn.

And for that reason I'm willing to get behind him because that's what we need to do
Dont think its that at all...Its purely down to the complete and utter incompetence of Blue Blue and his gang...who dont know their arses from their elbows..

Good post mate. Completely agree. And that's why it keeps bringing me back to the reality of where are RIGHT NOW and what's needed next to attempt to get us out of this mess. Allardyce would atleast provide a plan, get us hard to beat, and rip any of the fair weather players a new back passage

What you're witnessing is the 'happy clapper' effect - fans who will cheer on the club no matter what they do because the club is doing it.

It's not a new phenomenon, but I must admit that although I 'get' it I'm still amazed that threads like this exist.

Or there can be the third option apart from happy clappers and the people who are dead set against, I like to think this group are realists. Sometimes try as hard as you can you don't get what you want, (Silva or Simeone etc.) we could pay big money to try and tempt and release someone who isn't first choice from a club they are currently at but likely they come with risks (not managed in England) and would probably have to be replaced anyhow when a first choice does become available.

Like it or not we are in deep doo, we haven't keep a clean sheet or a team to less than 2 goals in over 6 weeks. We have the second worse goal difference in the league, 3 points off rock bottom. When you have zero confidence it is not the time to take a risk, we need to stabilise and the club think that it would be best with Allardyce in charge, I tend to agree. I don't like the man and I don't like the board for dithering so long that we have lost the chance to take a risk on anyone else. (you can say Unsworth was that man we have already taken a punt on) If we hired an unknown quantity and it didn't work say we give them 6-8 weeks then you are looking at a new man coming in around Feb time. That is risky. Very risky. Not to mention more expensive than hiring Allardyce and his whole crew to start with.

The board are going with about as sure a thing as possible to move forward, if we are relegated it would knock the club back around two and a half years (and that is if we get promoted first time of asking), by employing Allardyce it may be 6 months to a year and a half. It is biting the bullet to ensure the least amount of time is wasted. Unless he starts winning trophies he will be gone within 2 years.

I'm not against people who say they can't support the team while he is in charge, it is their choice, (but just seems strange you wouldn't want the team to do well regardless) but the people who go to the match need to get behind whoever comes in as the players need as much help as they can get. Start protests and jeering and get on the back of the management and team then we may end up sunk anyhow, it gives players an easy out.

Better players... I seriously doubt right now if what he has at his disposal classifies as better players, and even if they are, they are not set up for the way he wants to play.

He is a gatekeeper - he only has a 30% win percentage because he will never get close to a big job.

Its more a horror show then entertainment right now.
I think he has got better players here they are just low on confidence and got no guidance. A few additions in January and he will be no different to what RK was offering. I can see us finishing to 8 easily this season.
I admire your passion about it and am not disagreeing with you as I was just like you many years ago.

Everybody seemed well excited about smiley Roberto and pretty cheerful about miserable Ron so Ill take the fume over Fat Sam and Little Sam as a positive omen.

I actually don’t think that’s possible to just jib them off totally but maybe it is for some! We’ve been taken for granted far too long and this situation and appointment is the final straw for me. I won’t back this decision they’re making with my hard earned cash.

Dont think its that at all...Its purely down to the complete and utter incompetence of Blue Blue and his gang...who dont know their arses from their elbows..

Even so, it's still the reality of where we are. Who's ever fault it is, we still have not been able to attract a better quality manager.

Therefore, for me, it's time to get behind our new manager & show support and get out of this mess.

TBF I think everybody from 7th down should be worried to some extent mate. Two wins isnt going to sort it for us. Still no reason to gp for Allardyce like but we do need to do something.
Of course we need to do something, but this!!! Alan Pardew is a better option than him

Only time will tell if it is a good or bad move by the board. There are less really poor teams in the league this season. Brighton and Huddersfield are looking comfortable at the moment and even Palace are getting results.

This should have happened 3 weeks ago.
