He forfeited that when he left to go to Man Utd and became a ledge for them. He's an iconic player for us in his first stint.

We've few legends in the modern era, post mid-80's. I'd say Big Dunc but then people will shoot that down as he didn't score that many.
I'm not sure Man Utd fans would have him as a legend. Giggs, Gary Neville, Roy Keane are legends, I don't think they'd put Rooney in that category.

Tell a Man Utd fan he's a legend here and they'd go so much in to bulk they'd choke.

Best player who's worn our shirt? Quite possibly.
Alan Ball , Dixie Dean, Howard Kendall and Brian Labone , just to name 4 actual Everton legends are turning in their graves at that post mate. They were far , far better players ( although I have to admit that I didn't actually see Dixie play 😂).

What Rooney showed in his all too short Everton career was great talent but probably no more than James Rodriguez.

Players like Sheedy , Reid , Latchford , Mountfield , Watson , Ratcliffe , Sharp, Gray , Heath , Steven , Royle , Southall , Bracewell , Higson , Vernon ,Harvey, Stevens ....the list goes on and on have made a far greater contribution to Everton than Rooney.

Rooney should be a Man Utd legend.

Broken every record, won every trophy, came up clutch in the biggest moments.

It's literally what legends do. But wouldn't surprise me if you're right.

Not for me,could have been, although I detest Gerrard,he hung around them when they had some really poor sides and dragged them up himself, Rooney professed to be a massive Evertonian, could have been our talisman for at least a few more years, yeah I get the "professional"side and he and his people got that right but for him personally how good would it have felt to have won just one trophy here?I guess that you'd need to ask him that!!

I know they would at him being a legend but think they'd agree he's been one of the best players they'd seen.

To recap I am saying no way is he anywhere near Everton legend status but certainly one of the greatest players we've had, albeit very briefly. 👍

I didnt see Alan Ball, Kendall, Labone or Dean play, I admire what they did for this club, but they arent MY Everton legends.

Winning medals and trophies doesn't make you a legend. Playing football for a short while at the start and then towards the end of your career for a team you supported as a boy doesn't make you a legend. We have far more players we could call a legend who are from pre-PL than post-PL and that isn't down to how many medals or trophies they won. Scoring on your debut as a teenager doesn't make you a legend, it doesn't even make you an icon. If it did, James Vaughan would be a legend (and Ademola Lookman plus many others most likely).

Rooney is possibly an icon and definitely a Klingon when it suits him but he isn't a legend. He might make icon status only because he's a Scouser and supported us as a boy but you need a bit more than that even to be 'just' an icon. He also seems to have more to say about Man Utd than he does about Everton. He's Man Utd's Scouser. Seamus Coleman is closer to being a legend more so than Rooney but he's probably 'just' an icon, too.

Great player and Scouser but no legend. Not even close.

Exactly, Steve McMahon left and won loads too ffs! I was even torn watching the video of him and his kid at Bramley Moore, good for publicity i guess but i genuinely think he’d rather plug the hole in old traffords roof with his fat arse than do anything for us
