He puts more effort into sprinting out wide following a cross field ball to keep our shape than some do, and Young would be even more at risk if he didn’t. Good concentration on him. Probably does contribute quite invisibly defensively by having decent positioning, doesn’t get caught miles upfield with no cover behind. Not very exciting that though.
Doesn’t do that many wide-player ish things (obviously a couple of good crosses per game). Doucs broke down the right far more times. Will have been naturally technically great growing up, like Garner, and somehow just ended up a wide player. Not sure it obviously suits his instincts. Bit late now. I’d go back 15 years and tell him he’d make a good modern attacking left back.
Effective contributions though which is what we need at the moment, as those contributions lead to goals, which lead to points, even if the rest of his game is just decent. We have better players than him with more fanfare and expectations that have contributed far less to actual points on the board.
