To be fair Ipswich is a nice part of the world, well some parts of it anyway.
Suffolk is lovely, but not a place for a young millionaire footballer to enjoy being a young millionaire footballer.

Ipswich itself is a bog standard provincial town with little to differentiate it from many others across the country, except perhaps that it has a marina.

It's also not exactly a football hotbed.

Their 'local' rivals are 50 miles away.

You're calling me a happy clapper when you completely abstain from providing any scrutiny on moshiri when he along with kenwright (at the time he was chairman) continued to hobble the club and say silly things like we should honor him some way at the new stadium. Also once again moshiri is ultimately overseeing this deal so if it's penny pinching it's on him but once again all conjecture at this stage he could be another Eze or he could be like Dwight Gayle

Oh yes!!

I thought terms with the club had already been agreed which i would expect that agreement to be made in writing? So what if another club comes in with more money if you've got an agreement they have to abide by that agreement unless it was all done down the pub with handshakes and a few packets of dry roasted. If the lad decides to go to Ipswich then they're welcome to him if thats his level of ambition, i know we've not exactly been pulling up trees but two seasons ago they were in the third division and are likely to be back in the championship in 12 months.
Thats why you hear about bids being formally made and accepted people act like its just the journalists using pointless words but its a totally different thing it sounds like we'd made a proposal to Hull that they were happy with but not a formal offer its just the same as being gazumped on a house.

Having lived near Ipswich, the centre and surrounds are horrendous! Get out into the countryside and its decent, pretty much like most towns and cities tbf
I have literally just bought a house there and this was my immediate thoughts. Only plus is the neighbour is a season ticket holder and he has promised me Everton tickets.

This is where savvy minded individuals like myself can see the woods from the trees when assessing risk v reward in a proposed business transaction.

If we signed the boy for £18m and he is a turkey - Hull have done the club out of an extra £2m. Dyche recoups that money finishing 1 place higher in the table.

If we miss out on the boy over an extra £2m and he turns into a £50m+ player in 18-24 months time, the club have done themselves out of £32m+ profit on top of x amount of millions finishing higher up the table having a player of quality up in attack.

If the recruitment team think this boy has the potential to push the club on, then back Mr Thelwell with the cash !

It all depends what they think his true value is. When you're buying anything of value you should have an ideal price that you're willing to pay and a maximum price that you're willing to pay thats how negotiation works so if the ideal price was 12 mil and the maximum price was 16 mil then 18 mil is actually 50% more than you really wanted to pay which is a massive difference.

Is this like when you wanted us to spend £90m on Zaha and Callum Wilson

This is why we got into this fiasco in the first place.

You knew nothing of the lad a couple of weeks ago.

Not necessarily- that’s been the main criticism of our transfer policy. Only looking inside the PL
When you already have a team in the Premiership who know the league then you can look outside.
Even then players can take a long time to adapt to the league, club and country.

A promoted team without Premiership experience is asking for trouble

I don’t think the issue here is which club would he prefer to go to. I think the debate for him and his agent is about how he maximises his potential and earnings.

From a financial point of view, it’s likely he will earn more money in the long run if he plays every game for Ipswich and plays well. Then in the likelihood they get relegated, he will probably move again next year so he will get two signing on fees in consecutive years and if he does well at Ipswich then he could probably command higher wages because he’s a proven PL player.

If that is what he is thinking though then let him go and we will find someone else

I think you must have had an input into our transfer activity in recent years.

Normally it would be someone else who would describe an individual as savvy minded...you are hardly objective.

I do not work for EFC's recruitment team mate.

I simply put my faith in them to identify targets and expect them to be backed in the market.

For years, the fans have bemoaned BK "interfering with transfers" "not letting the DOF do his job".

We finally have a situation where the DOF is identifying the right profile of player and there is no BK around to perform pantomime, yet those samecl bemoaning fans are happy for the club to restrict the DOF from doing his job.
