I cant help think there's something more to your objections than just the fee.

I’m not objecting to the player, I’m objecting to the position we seem to have prioritised.

He looks promising but his positioning seems a bit scary. Looks like he bails himself out with pace. Can learn that though.

My biggest gripe with this signing is it shows how piss poor our scouting is. Lad went for peanuts last Summer which means we’re basically just signing him on last season’s showing and nothing beforehand.

Sometimes people can't see what's under their nose...if anything palace will be looking at this thinking they've dropped a boob.

If the outcome here is that we sign O Brien this year so that he gets 12 months as a backup before Branthwaite leaves NEXT summer then it's exactly the kind of planning we've been wanting to see from our DOF for a very long time.

I mean I don’t disagree with that point but doesn’t really address what I actually said.

We have 2 solid enough CB in Tarks and Branners but really poor backup in that area, Holgate and Keane. This signing will mean we will be able to offload either one of them knowing this lad will be there to play (hopefully to the level required), but it may be a signing in case Branners ends up wanting to leave, which is good to get done now rather than try replacing him at the last minute when team know you have a huge amount of cash from a player sale. I think this happened with Sigurðsson from Swansea, had a deal agreed, sold Lukaku, then Swansea wanted more and we got done by them.

Dom is a ropey striker who occasionally looks good.

I`d hope that the plan at all times is to strengthen all areas of the squad when it can be done. If they`re looking for a left back or CF and have n`t got a player ready to a deal with but a chance is there to strengthen in another area its a good idea to get that done, rather than wait until you have to go out and find a new CB.

I still can't forgive us not signing Kante, Mahrez and Vardy. Messi slipped through the net as well. Could have picked him up when he was 6 for peanuts in Argentina.

We literally did the correct thing signing Branthwaite from Carlisle didn’t we. Or Dom from Sheff Utd.

Yeah but Man U can say it about Branthewaite and there will be clubs who can say it about Dom. It's a crazy Zatara esq take on things.
