I think most of us are measured enough to think a player integral to a team that has beaten us twice and finished a fair margin ahead of us would most likely be at least a good squad player. Plus the fact they were using the "United quality" thing like a bloody brand irked me somewhat. Maybe I'm just too irritable today.
Aye, the same type of people who have been promoting 'the west ham way' and all that. I can understand United fans not wanting it though. He's not some fancy named foreigner and he plays in the most understated position on the pitch.

Then they're not very bright.

If I was a United fan and had seen my team win the league god knows how many times in the last 20 years I don't think I'd be looking for an expensive Irish defensive midfielder to get us back. We know he's a class act but I'm not surprised whatsoever at United fan's lack of enthusiasm

Then they are really forgetting what won them those titles over the 20 years. But whatever. I'm over it now. Let them not want him.

James McCarthy mid way through next season will be the players name quoted by pretentious footballing know it alls in the pub. The sort who have mumford and sons CD's lying on their coffee tables in order to look like they've got a clue.

I genuinely believe McCarthy is our one player that any team in the world would would not have a problem having, let alone United.

He's class, more so in a system like ours, but not every side plays a system like ours.

There's a lot of great players you can get for the 25-30m we'd demand. Take your blue specs off and you'll see that.

He's perfect for us and for bobs system though.

You say that but for the last 4-5 seasons they've tried to play Cleverley, Fletcher, Jones and Fellaini in there next to Carrick (their Barry) as an industrious all action metronome/sweeperupper and all have failed (Fletcher coming closest before his illness). McCarthy would have fit in perfectly under Fergie and yes, even last year under Moyes, but it remains to be seen what sort of system/shape/style Van Gaal is going to play.

In the last 4-5 seasons they've won league's and played in CL finals. Think it's a bit wide of the mark to say they've failed.

That united website is amazing, no champions league and a manager who players love to hate, yet they are still entitled to world class centre midfielders?

In the words of Keegan, I would LOVE it to see Ledson, McCarthy and Barkley smash them in a couple of seasons once ledson is ready.

Meanwhile McCarthy needs a partner.

I like McCarthy but the time to buy him was last summer when he was available at a reasonable price. Just like Strootman was.

you say that but nobody has been able to nail down that position consistantly for them, and whoever they plays in there generally gets dogs abuse for failing to do the same things that Jamesey succeeds at for us.

I think you're being a bit naive tbh mate. Plenty of players get stick for all kinds of reasons. The fact is until Moyes they where the dominant force in English football and as such they'll still look at the very top bracket of players. James is a little bit under that if you're honest with yourself.
