James McCarthy

Coleman is 25 this year and had only come on the last two seasons, James is two years younger with amount of experience. You really have started spouting rubbish since Moyes left.

I'm talking about the here and now. Coleman is proven, McCarthy isn't. Coleman was a £60k punt, McCarthy is one of our most expensive signings ever.

That isn't rubbish, it's fact. I'm not going to wax lyrical about someone solely based on the fact they're now going to pull on a blue shirt as that would make me a Kopite.

Well I can already see his quality.

I'm willing to give him time. I also don't believe in this here and now. Fellaini wasn't the best when we first bought him? And he is the record signing. He then proved himself and developed into a very good player. I'm willing to be patient and see if we get the same results.

He has got to be given time. Over the years very few players have hit the ground running and have taken time to settle. If he does hit the ground running then thats a bonus but he needs time as most players do. I just hope if he plays a blinder on his debut people don't use this as his standard of his play or he will be shot down time ands time again.

We didn't pay 13 million for how good he is right now. If you based it off that it would of been about 7 million. We payed 13 million for his potential. Potential that means we have to give him time. Very similar to Felli.

....£13m but we've bought him on the catalogue, 25 years @ £10 per week.

Yes when Felli first came hear he had no fans at all - he used his elbows more than anything else it took him time to adapt to the prem - he became a very imposing attacking midfielder with great ball control from his chest but he did lack pace and was a poor tackler his best position is upfront behind the striker - sorry to see him go but he intended to leave who ever the Manager was as he stated many times he wanted champions league football his house move to Manchester was a big hint - at least he warned us he would be off somewhere unlike DM!!!!!

Although I agree with other points, Felli isn't an attacker. He's a defensive midfielder. Strong on the ball, breaks up the play, strong which is needed in that position, aerial threat and can also get you goals when needed. He always maintained that DM was his best position.

The first goal v Norwich away what was Felli role as a defensive midfielder then he was completely static - no the best position for him will be playing upfront behind the striker for UNT Carrick will play the deeper role - he will have competition and get fed up when dropped when ala Rooney is fit!

I agree, but Felli was at a much more advanced level when he came in IMO, as in he was able to dominate games on occasion (vs. Liverpool in Europe and a burgeoning reputation across the continent as a top talent) and his only issue was consistency which came with games at a high level. He already had the tools in his locker.

My problem with McCarthy is that, to me, he doesn't look to have the tools in the locker to make the step up to becoming an integral part of our side. I don't think of McCarthy as a physical presence in midfield, or an excellent distributor of the ball, or even a particularly decent tackler or harrier of the opposition. I see him as 6/10 in pretty much every area with little scope for improvement. In short, I see him as a mid-table Premier League squad player.

I hope he does come good and becomes a dominant force in our midfield, but I can certainly understand why Evertonians are uneasy with him.
