James McCarthy

But he clearly has as in his first season here he was superb all-round.

As I said, he needs to improve. He's definitely a confidence player and hopefully he gets it back.

and as i have said before mate, Jelavic looked like a world class striker when he first arrived and for the next 4-5 months, in reality he had a purple patch as an otherwise average player, same for McCarthy, one good season in his career

We'll see.

You're set that he's going to leave yet there's very little evidence to suggest it mate. In fact there's a lot more evidence that Koeman rates him but simply wants more from him. Doesn't mean he's looking to sell.

That being said, IF we get another centre mid in that's going to shove McCarthy further down the pecking order, and a big bid comes in, he may go.

But there'll be others to go before him - i.e. Gibson, possibly Cleverley.

Hes our third best defensive mid option, so I hope we don't let him go on loan like it says in the papers. Either sell & replace or keep, he played well tonight but can't take anything from a good performance vs a League 2 team.

He illustrated his point by explaining Sunderland could not compete with Watford for Everton’s James McCarthy. “I don’t know if we’d have that kind of cash to spend on just one player,” he said. “I hope it won’t be the case in a couple of years’ time.”

Off to Watford.

Mate, if he hasn't learnt to pass forward by now or that making a run is allowed more than two or three times a season then at his age and experience he never will do, he a the same at international level as well, and you can't make a player grow a pair - he's a master of taking himself out of attacking moves,by marking someone so he's not available for the ball.

Yes but remember he has been instituionalised for 6-7 years playing the 'Martinez way' . He might be like one of those lions or bears cramped in a cage in an east European zoo for years and forgotten what freedom is like, in his case passing forward and getting further up the pitch. Unleash the beast and see if a bit of freedom can rejuvinate him!

I hope he stays. Like most of the squad, he lost confidence in Martinez's incompetent/dysfunctional coaching and could rediscover his best form under Koeman. No reason we can't see big improvement from existing, underperforming players, just as Klopp has done and Mournino, Guardiola, Conte will produce.

There does seem to be a sense of entitlement creeping in with our support. Very dismissive of our players and happy to indulge shitty behaviour by Kone at Sunderland. Unpleasant.
