That's a whopping benchmark of disgrace there, but I agree with you - Gibson shames the royal Blue jersey. Should be drop-kicked into a skip, if anyone had a foot big enough to shift the gigantic doss-bag out of Finch Farm.
It was the Grand Theft Auto, booze, bicycles and petrol pumps incident that did it for me. It's one thing to be unlucky with injuries, and I am sympathetic to people with mental health or addiction issues, but to endanger others lives, do one so as not to get in any bother like a coward, whilst simultaneously disresepecting an employer (and fanbase) who have supported you through everything takes the proverbial. Sooner this waste of space is gone the better.

I thought it was wrong of Koeman to talk about it at a press conference. If he has concerns on how his players are treated by international managers then it should be taken up with them in private. I don't think either of them have covered themselves in glory on this one.
Rubbish. O'Neill and Keane are always mouthing off in the press when they don't like a situation with a player. Koeman was quite within his rights to decry the decision of an international manager to take a player, who's wages and the bulk of his rehab we fund, and risk his physical well being for his own short term goals.

I am assuming you are an Irishman as I cannot believe anyone taking an objective view of this could come to the conclusion that you have drawn. Everton and McCarthy lose in this situation and the only possible winners are the Irish national team, who contribute nothing to the players development in football terms, his financial security (in terms of stability with his current employer or his ability to attract a future employer) or his ongoing health.

Koeman was right to say what he did and I hope he keeps publicly calling out international managers on this issue.

I am from Northern Ireland but that doesn't colour my judgement in this matter. My objectivity lies with the fact that Koeman bringing this issue up in public doesn't resolve anything. In fact it has probably hardened attitudes. If Koeman and Everton have an issue with McCarthy going straight into international football coming off an injury, I can fully appreciate why they do have, then making it public was only going to back O'Neill into a corner. He had to react.
International teams have the power to call up players and their employers can do nothing about it. I would have thought having a good working relationship with international managers where you could have some influence on them was preferable to fighting with them.

Koeman has acted like a big kid. He doesn't want McCarthy and will be selling him so I doubt he really cares if McCarthy is here or over there. If he's here though he'll bench him or declare him injured and wont play him. I dont blame JM looking to keep in the loop and in the public eye for a transfer.

Maybe RK thinks he can pull rank on O'Neil...in which case O'Neill can show him his two EC winners medals. :coffee:
I imagine Koeman would counter back with his own and raise him a European Championship medal....

Genuinely sad to say I'd forgotten he was still with us :( such a shame because in his first season, we were talking about him in the same way we are talking about Ghana Gueye now. Whether it isn't with us, or with somebody else, I hope the lad gets his career back on track.

Still deserves a chance, no doubt he'll play plenty of games this season especially with December packed fixture list coming up.

He didn't bring it up - he got asked a question and gave an honest answer.

O'Neill didn't 'have to react'...

Nobody worth their salt will be basing his international managerial career on 'reacting' to club managers

So I see you've moved on from the "Koeman is forcing Barkley out" narrative now that he's playing again.

For one, Koeman is much more successful than O'Neil, but, primarily, where is the evidence that McCarthy isn't valued?

He's started every game he's been fully fit for, and was on the bench against City.

He's been struggling with an injury.

When fully fit he's our first-choice back-up midfielder - and would likely have been in the side ahead of Cleverley in recent weeks.

Playing wise they both were successful with Koeman having the definite edge with his La Liga titles and the Euro88 win.
Managing wise O'Neill has the definite edge. Lets's leave aside the SPL and Eredivisie titles they won as they're practically worthless. Koeman has a Spanish Cup to his name outside pf that; O'Neill took a club like Leicester and won two LCs with them, and took Celtic to the UEFA Cup final, and internationally qualified the RoI for Euro2016.

He can withdraw from the Irish squad but he did not. Doesn't look like he put the club's interest first and foremost.

It's hard to know exactly what's going on with McCarthy and whether or not he remains committed to Everton but as i've mentioned before, Koeman's comments do not sound to me like someone who doesn't value McCarthy's presence as a squad player.

I think Koeman is well aware that McCarthy is good back up for Gueye and Barry and wants him fit. I just hope McCarthy sees sense this time.
