Poor work ethic? not true, Rafael benched him on the 1st La Liga match after an excellent pre season from James. This is a strong statement from Rafael that he did not fancy James at all. I remember the very first time James start under Rafael, he outputted 2 goals (one bicycle kick) and 1 assist in that game.
Unlucky after that stellar game from James, there was an international break and James got injured. After that injury it has been a challenge for James to be a starter under Rafael.
Since Rafael is already here, James should leave period.
