Confirmed Signing James Tarkowski

I get what you're saying to a certain extent. Even though his services would be crazy exorbitant for a player with no resale value hes like Ronaldo but more mobile and any club with cash like PSG or real would seize the opportunity to recruit a player of that calibre
Madrid's recruitment has taken a noticeably younger swing in recent years. Honestly look where they send their big bucks. Hazard is a major outlier and also the worst failure. Not all the way a coincidence.

I just don't really believe there is room for us to create a European quality team by adding older guys who are on frees. The ones who are good enough usually find homes that show they're good enough. We get the remaining crap.

Yeah but their best players are 30ish years old modric and benzema a youth push is necessary and can rejuvenate a squad but nothing wrong with signing the occasional seasoned athlete when it becomes are main strategy for recruitment like when we buying a bunch of old ass players like rooney , williams, even young players who looked like they were 30 like sandro and Klassen I'd agree also hes a free because he didn't want sign for craptastic Burnley

The only player in the squad born between Godfrey and Gordon is Mykolenko. We're going to have basically no players entering their primes years in the next few seasons if we don't sign them. Meanwhile a fair few figure to hit that downslope. We need to add on the upslope side.

Within our current squad, in the next few years, lets assume few = 3, we will have :

3 players approaching their prime
9 players in their prime
9 players potentially past their prime

So that gives us 3 years to replace the bottom 9 players.

Tarky would make it 10.

People talk about balance. That's pretty clearly not in balance, for me at least.

The issue here is Tarky.

His starting point, hes 30 a few months into the season, we can both agree that is on the wrong side of what most would consider his prime.

But you seem to think we get 12 months before his legs start falling off and we are left with another player on huge wages that we cant shift. A noble glass half full option. But may I present to you the half a glass option. He maintains a decent level for 3 years, his contract expires and he moves on, after giving us 3 years of decent service. HEY?

Anyway, we have done this, ive never really rated the fella, so yet again, his only attraction is the fact that hes FREE and hes not injury prone, sign me up.

His legs will go. It might be tomorrow, or next season or in year three but he's getting 4 or 5 years and at some point in that deal we'll have a player who can no longer run at the level a PL player needs to.
This is the funniest and yet daftest thing I have read in years!

Its going to happen, mightn't be today or tomorrow or next year?

I wish we had your hindsight with the cases like G'bamin, Delph, Danny Williamson, Slavin Bilic, Bolasie, Andros Townsend, Jack Rodwell and each and every player who have had to retired early due to injury

Absolute whopper! and that has nothing to do with a burger!

I mean a few of those you listed were pretty obvious cases of "this guy might not be able to last"

Do you see why this being the best case makes it an unappealing signing, even for free?

Thats not the best case, I didnt present the best case cos you wouldnt accept it.

But the best case is that he signs for 3, makes us better and we end up extending his contract and we get 4 or 5 years from him.
It goes back to what is most likely to happen.

Let's say you've got four options:

He's awful from the jump and completely useless.

He's decent but never cements a consistent place either through form or injury.

He's a solid starter for between a year and two and then starts to fade.

He's solid for the whole length of his contract and a majority wants him renewed (I can't just say is renewed while it looks like we're giving Kenny a new deal).

I'd put the percentages at 2%, 48%, 48%, 2%. Relatively low risk, almost no real chance for any type of reward. For me those aren't signings we really need to be looking to make at the moment. We aren't going to go forward making those and do we really want to hold where we are?

We won't go forward solely signing 1 player, no.

But if we can sign 3 or 4, that improve us?

Look I agree, let's not sign loads of 30 year olds.

I've said a few times that this signing doesn't bother me either way if it happens or not, but, we have a bunch of CBs who are inconsistent performers or injury prone. Tarkowski is the opposite, we know he will be on the pitch most weeks putting in a 7/10 performance providing the curse of Everton doesn't strike him.

He just might be the best signing we make all summer with the amount of goals we conceded last season from corners and set pieces!

Why are you making up nonsense percentages to try and validate your point ?
A solid premier league CB with no recent injury problems joining a club at 29 and having three good seasons where he doesn’t deteriorate is not a 2% probability ?
Every thread I read at the moment is full of you arguing with multiple people with a completely contrarian take. The more I see you post the more I think you have to be on a wind up or just not understand football at all. Even Zat, the biggest supporter of bringing in youth, wants this signing!
