Confirmed Signing James Tarkowski

I dont need to guess.

He only wants to go to Barca.

I only wanted to go to the only club that wanted me.

While I admire your cherrypicking of examples it is really easy to do the other way as well. Kane, Rooney, Hazard, RVP got the golden boot the year he turned 29 and then vanished more or less, Mane and wee Raz might be doing it right now. Lots and lots of players who had there best years and while still good as they got older were also clearly worse. But a worse version of Kane is still a great player. What is a past his peak James Tarkowski?

My rough count has 162 players who played 2000+ minutes in the league last year (my random pick for what constitutes a regular player). 26 of those were aged 30 or older. Of that group 23 were either 30, 31 or 32. The only older guys were Moutinho, Ronaldo and Thiago Silva.

I'll let you decide if you think that matters or not when we're about to sign someone to (probably) four years who turns 30 not even halfway into next season.

seriously though mate...you are having a mare with this narrative. 20 years ago players were at their peak at 30
With the advances is Sport science etc, careers will be extended and the peak performance on average will be extended if anything
Tarkowski has a good contract length few years ahead of him, can play 90min, is tough as an old boot and we aren't getting on a free for resale value
his age and experience is a good thing, not a bad thing
This is purely opinion but one of the most overrated aspects of how people think about football.

Seamus Coleman is 33.

And JT isnt 30, hes 29.

There's also a reason Lewandowski is available and the only club seemingly interested is the one whose recruitment has been a train wreck lately.

I'll let you guess what it is.

You're telling me Lewandowski who scores around 50 goals a season in all comps went to Barca out of desperation? They've been shambolic but they still have clout as a club. I know you've made a claim for fame from your wacky takes but that's bananas man. Are you the product of a secret govt project to create the most flabbergasting footballing takes the world has ever known?

I didn't say desperation.

But would it surprise me if his agent went to City/Real Madrid/United/etc. and they all said no? No it would not. And it wouldn't surprise me if most of those clubs basically said we don't want to pay an older player (or United another older player) 300k a week. Because generally they don't do that unless they're resigning guys they already have.

Why are you dorks talking about extraordinary players in the tarkowski thread? it's not germane to the tarks talk
Because when I say maybe we shouldn't sign a bang average 29 year old who is likely about to start getting worse the response seems to be "X awesome player was still awesome at age 30."

Well from my POV, we lack cash and we lack midfielders, we lack people who can pass a ball, create.

I would rather we spent our money on those players and if we can replace an injury prone Mina for somebody more reliable or loan out Branflakes so his career doesnt stall, then im all for signing a bang average CB.

In an ideal world we go full Zat, we sell 20 of our current 24 players and we replace them all, no, im not naming the 4, cos its a hypothetical.

We get it, you arent a fan of "wasting" money on average players.

But sometimes, needs must.

If Tarky, thats now his name, if Tarky helps us steady the ship for even 12months, well its money well spent, if he can pass on his experience to the younger players, great, which younger players you may ask, the 1s we buy NEXT Summer cos we didnt waste all our dough on an area that we are mainly going to ignore and overload in by playing 3.

Issue is the 24 to 36 months after that. Maybe the contract is cheap and we can move him on. I don't trust Everton to do that. I think we'll have a not fit for purpose player on the books for a couple of extra years.

I don't think we can afford to make signings on 12 months outlooks alone. Yeah we gotta get a bit better now but I think it is totally possible to do that without making any sacrifices for what we do down the road.

Also I feel pretty confident Frank won't survive next season if he commits to that 5-4-1 mess. So that's fun.

I get what you're saying to a certain extent. Even though his services would be crazy exorbitant for a player with no resale value hes like Ronaldo but more mobile and any club with cash like PSG or real would seize the opportunity to recruit a player of that calibre

Close to deserving a like...unfortunately you omitted Keane.

Also, in your example of binning 20 players and keeping 4 it should have been bin 19 keep 13.

I hope Tarkowski signs.
