Confirmed Signing James Tarkowski

Pretty much this.
He is much better than we have. Except for Mina, but man never fit.
We are not signing superstar players for silly money this year. We just ain't. We still have 2 years of rolling losses to figure in. We are not spending much money's,, and any money's we do spend will probs be in midfield, financed by a sales.
This lad is better than we have, and no transfer fee (yeah yeah sign on fee). But unless we pick up an unknown gem. This is the kind of signing we need to make, right now. Better than we have, a leader, no silly fee and wage.
We will spend money, but we will sell as well to obviously help with that.

The club will want to be run more efficiently moving forward and the new ground should help that, if till then the club want to stay just under the threshold, they can nothing is stopping them as long as they stay within the rules.

A number of High earners left last season, more are going this summer and more will go next summer. We made a profit on transfers last season while getting the wage bill down, we will probably making a bigger profit on sales this summer, so the 3 yr losses could easily have reset themselves by the summer we move into BDM, ready to go again

The other thing, and it's a bit crude, but adding another Michael Keane actually helps Michael Keane. His best form at Burnley came playing next to another clogger. Here he has been best next to Mina.

I suspect we see a more consistent Keane next to Tarkwoski. That's not necessarily a reason to buy him, but I think Keane benefits from Tarowoski.
I doubt they play much in a 3 if franks goes that way. In a 2 im still not convinced. Keane and holgate have had 5 yrs at Everton and still cost us plenty of goals every season, im not sure franks wants our defenders to sit on the edge of our box for 90mins

Indeed it is. Keane has looked at worst okay - at times even better - when we've played a deeper line with little to no gap between the back four and Pickford.

The problems emerge when there's space behind the back line and Keane has to turn; he's easily done for pace and turns like a stricken cruise liner.

It's horses for courses. I think there's positives behind signing Tarkowski but only if it fits the style we want to play because can he succeed in a higher line?

What we can't afford is to sign him, for him to struggle with more expansive football and we're then limited by him and Keane.

Just saw he made more headed clearances than anyone in the league, granted in a relegated team but Burnley 'only' conceded 53 which is less than United and on a par with 5th placed Arsenal and 7th placed West Ham.

The higher line can work if you dont have blistering pace when you have a partner with pace that can cover- please see Ben Godfrey.

As I say though he can also read the game well so can help organise, especially if we are going in with young full backs- Myko and Patterson.

and that's what we've lacked in Yerry's absence. Coleman may be captain but positionally he can be pulled all over the place and both Keane and Holgate need a leader and an organiser beside them.
It's probably less about what we get from Tarkowski and more what he brings out of others that is the real benefit
