Never been more certain we'll sign someone.

Forget the wide player stuff, or even GK he keeps talking about. If you read Martinez's words carefully over the past few weeks he's always placed doubt on the need to strengthen in either of those two areas right now. One place he has clearly identified as weak and incapable of being solved in the remainder of the season is a creative force in the midfield. He's stated a number of times that Osman and Pienaar aren't realistically going to make it back this season and I reckon with Eto'o gone everything is going on a search for a playmaker.
That's the impression I got from his comments after West Brom game however when we missed out on Gil and the window dragged on I'm beginning to doubt it.

Im predicting fume. One way or another.

No mate. I should just qualify what I mean about a wide player not being his priority - I meant an orthodox winger type. I do think he'll look wide for more of a creative force, someone who could play wide and do a job for him between the lines. He had Gomez at Swansea and Wigan playing that sort of role. Maybe he thought Eto'o could do it when he brought him in.
Fingers crossed! I'm getting worried by his comments but I hope he's got something up his sleeve.

Roberto Martinez has ruled out signing a winger before the end of the transfer window.

And despite the Blues being on a torrid run of form, which has seen them win just one of their last 13 games, the Goodison boss will not be looking to add in that position.

“I do think when Kevin Mirallas is fit and with Aiden McGeady - and the possibility of Ross Barkley and Steven Naismith to play in those positions - I think we are strong enough in those areas at the moment,” the Catalan said.

“But January, and any window, is always an opportunity where you can look to see if we can find specific characters who can help the players we have at the club, and we will always do that.

in.”

That's how he plays so I think it's perfectly reasonable to think this. I think he thought Pienaar and Osman would last another season.

The tune he has been singing this month has not been promising at all but I don't think he is going to come out and risk saying anything that could affect any potential negotiation. Bobby is a bit like Moyes in this regard, they keep their cards close with transfers as they know they have a budget that they have to work with. If you read the article in the Echo about Moyes transfer planning and its secrecy then you would kind of have a feel for how it worked under him. With our budget and cash flow as they are every transfer he makes has to be a complex decision. I am not happy with the press conferences but I will bide my time and if we don't sign anyone then I will want answers same as everyone else.

But if we're not skint why isn't Martinez spending? "Saving for summer" means were skint till summer or someone is sold is summer same old same old bills a blue Yada Yada
No it might just mean we're keeping it till the summer when he thinks a player will come available like we did for Rom.
