January Transfer Thread 2017

Teams don't want to sell their best players in Jan mate.

Thing is there is a difference between us signing their best players, and us identifying players to sign.

for arguments sake, we aren't going to teams better than us and signing their first team players, they won't move and as you say they won't sell. BUT, players we have earmarked as players to improve us, out of favour ones or whatever else, they would be the ones available.

Best example, the kopites. They went in and got Sturridge and Couthino, players who wanted game time but weren't first choice, so they were easier to sin and formed part of the first 11 at the same time.

I got the stats off an article mate - based from our average Starting XI up to the international break in October...

fair enough, i used what would be our most likely first 11 if everyone is available. either way its far too old and it concerns me that most of the players we were linked to in the summer were relatively old too. its something that needs addressed badly imo

Thanks for the reply Goat, I too heard Moshiris comments and that side of the business seems in great hands.

It's all about getting the right players in that have the drive to get us where we need to be

Hopefully Walsh has been working overtime since Koeman has nothing to do with the transfers.

Bit concerned too that so many people are looking to get rid of so many players in one window, wholesale changes rarely work, look at Spurs with the Bale money

The difference there is qpurs already had a good team, we dont

I agree with you 100% Ash, but I still think some are expecting us to be able to go out and buy players who are first choice at their clubs in the middle of the season.

Unless those clubs are a) poor, or b) in a situation where they have to sell, it'll be very difficult to do that.

That's no excuse for not trying though or - as you say - identifying other players who improve us, though they may not settle in immediately should they come from other leagues.

Well they weren't that good, hence the fact that they were poor after Bale left.

It took Poch going and gradually overhauling their squad and style (and that took a few months - they really struggled up until just prior to Xmas 2014 - when they beat us at their place 2-1).

good point actually

Let's get Jonathan Tah and Julian Brandt from Bayer Leverkusen.

We're a bigger club than them and hopefully Moshiri flexes his financial muscle and we take their 2 best players off them this january, iirc Brandt has a low buy out clause,he is going to be some player and could turn out to be another Bale.

Not to two Germany internationals we're not.

Not usually one for posting on the forums as I usually just read what people say but thought I'd share some information I was told by my friend who happens to be high up at club:

He reckons that Koeman is very unhappy at the board at the minute and it comes after there was murmurs round finch farm recently that he was told via conference call that the transfer budget him and Steve Walsh agreed with the board for January has took a substantial hit due to the club pumping more money into the ground planning and application in order to speed it up.

I wouldn't be expecting anything major to happen in January regardless but it seems weird to me that board can still only commit to either one or the other.

In other news grass is green.

Everton suddenly not having money in january shocker, more things change the more they stay the same eh?

not excepting much myself, it would be against the principles of the club, just a dodgy loan and we hope for the best.

Spurs didn't waste the bale money in hindsight, they signed some players who made the first team and took them to where they are now. In fact 3 of their first 11 came from the bale money, Eriksen/Lamela/Chadli.

Bit of a myth the spurs wasting money, over half of it is still there and others were in the team and replaced since. only 29 million soldado was a miss, and even then he just goes to show the risk of signing any player, good in one league, can't adapt in another.

I've only seen Brandt a coupe of times, he does look a very talented player.

I heard a German journalist on the radio prior to the Euro16. Saying he will be better than draxler who is apparently worth 60mil
