January Transfer Thread 2017

It's not about who we can afford mate, it's about who wer can attract

Of those names you mentioned - the most realistic is VVD due to Koemans connection with him and the mutual agent they share, he's the one the manger could possibly 'sell the vision of what hes trying to do here to, the others will not care one bit and will just be looking for a ready made CL team

With city, chelsea and united interested in VVD, I think he Is the least likely IMO.

Anyhow I wouldn't want us to pay £40m for VVD. There are too many areas were we need to strengthen before CB. Holgate may of just saved us £40m in that respect.

Robles has done well since coming and a new goalkeeper shouldn't necessarily be a priority for this window. However, come summer, it definitely should be. It's a position where a manager must be absolutely ruthless and get the best he possibly can, almost regardless of cost. A keeper's faults and weaknesses are exposed more than any other position, and are more costly. There are so many examples of top teams with weak keepers who have cost the side honours. Between West and Southall, we lacked a truly reliable goalie. If we'd had Shilton in the 70s, we would have won at least one title, I reckon, and it was always a priority for the best managers, like Shankly, Clough, Paisley, and Ferguson. While every keeper will make errors, the best make fewer. Robles may well be the answer, but, if Koeman has any doubts about him, he should replace him with the best we can afford, and pay over the odds, if need be. You can indulge players in other positions, but not goalkeeper.

I wonder with the deadline being so short now and the lack of news or mentions then that is our business sorted already.

Not a complaint, but to have nothing put there is a little odd for a team planning on doing more business. At most I can see 1 coming in, an attacker as 3 out and 3 in but can't see that third being anything special

There's 10 days left Ash.

If there's a deal to be done it'll be done. I get the feeling we're still after a wide forward/winger to supplement what we have.

We'll see.

Thing is, are all or even any of them actually interested in VVD mate, the papers have said they are, but the same papers have sold Lukaku about 7 times now to about 5 different clubs, none of whom have ever actually bid on him.

The only one of those 3 clubs to have actually commented was to say no theiir not interested in January about trying to buy him when Guardiola got pestered about it.

Mourinho won't buy him, not a chance on earth - he's not the type of cb he goes for
Chelsea - honestly think it's way more likely that Conte goes to Italy to get a new centre back in when he decides he needs one, plus they have two very talented ones coming through already - christenson on loan and one they have recalled
City - maybe, but still think it's just the media trying to stir up city interest when Guardiola probably has his own targets not given to him by the Express or Mirror

Where does it say the deadline isn't til thursday. Anywhere I look it says January 31st which is Tuesday. Even the premier league website says that .
"The winter transfer window opened on 1 January 2017 and will close on 31 January at 11pm GMT, and premierleague.com will cover all the signings and sales made by the Premier League clubs across the month"

Pretty sure it's next Thursday due to there being games on the night of the 31st.

I could be wrong. Still, two day's difference. Plenty of time.

Even better haha

8 days and no links

We weren't linked to Lukaku until about 3 hours before he signed.

At the moment, the squad is in a good place. Players are starting to play to their ability and the deadwood is being moved out.

Still improvements to be made. Confident we'll get at least one in.
