I don't think Gibson will leave us, ever. A player who never plays and gets new contracts despite it is in no rush to leave the club. He will probably raring to go by contract extension time in 2 years i am guessing.
Perhaps the best way to get rid of him is to threaten to play him, don't think he could handle that unimaginable prospect.

Yes surprise him one day. Get him to come to goodison and 15 minutes before kick off tell him to get his boots on as he is starting. I would imagine the first thing he would do is trip over the grass and break a leg to get out of it.

No. It wasn't. Not when we had 5 CMs.

No, they cant. Lukaku gets injured - what happens next?
We play in a different way. We play Mirallas up front. We change formation , we adapt.

I am not disagreeing with you about signing another striker, we do need cover for Lukaku, I would guess that the manager is well aware of where the squad needs strengthening, but maybe the player he wants isn't available in this window and he won't settle for less(nsno).

Of course, Calvert-Lewis is a striker and should be back in another two or three weeks.

Wonder how long it will be before the opinion that 'we don't want to over spend in January' comes out as an excuse. For not investing. Despite over spending in summer for yannick.

We are done for the window because we have won a few games. I have come to peace with it. You should

That is fair enough.
Personally the thought of seeing a midfield of Schniederlin, Gana, Davies and Barkley is mouth watering.
Rock solid to breakdown with pace and energy to get forward and support a floating forward (Lookman/Mirallas/?) and supply Rom.
I would stick with the back 3 too and look for a younger LWB to compete with Baines.

Compact and lethal.

You'd play all four at once?

I don't classify Davies and Barkley as defensive midfielders. However, having a two of some combination of Schneiderlin, Gueye, Barry, McCarthy or Besic in the team is something that I don't support and I think we got used to it under Martinez as a necessity because the defence was crap.

Personally, I would have Davies and Gueye as my two center mids at the moment. Both have the legs to get up and down the pitch, neither of them sit off too deep and both are willing to get the ball forwards.

Looks like we're going with what we've got.

I smell a 7th place finish and no european football next season.

A 7th place finish will be massive improvement on what Martinez achieved and this alone makes it financially beneficial to of sacked him.

Expect the usual 'we've won a few games so we don't need signings' shout come out, it was clear from midway throughout the first window it was sell to buy.
