January Transfer Thread 2020

Having a tough time figuring out why a 32 year old playing fairly regularly for a team still in the CL would want to join us.

Or honestly why we would want to sign him.

Because if we dont sign a CF (which I doubt we will) we need more goal threat from midfield / out wide as we havent the forwards / wingers to be able to put teams to the sword.

At 32 give him his final big payday and get him in.

I'd like to see a left footed centre half to give more balance in defence and allow tactical flexibility. Mason to play in the middle of three centre halves with excursions into midfield for numerical advantage.

Interesting decision this January
Do we get players in to ensure we stay up this season first? We are still only 5 points off relegation. Getting fancy overseas players in now may seem attractive but if they don’t gel in premier league we could be sucked into a relegation battle that may not suit them
longer term we need at least 9 new squad players
im worried
5 points off 6th
We are never going down

City absolutely ate our lunch in the middle of the park today. I don't see how forwards can score if we cannot get the ball to them, other than wait for the opposing goalkeeper to gift us the ball and then pounce. Which won't provide enough goals to get us anywhere, though it was nice that it happened today.

Admittedly, those same midfielders were good enough in December even against good resistance, so I don't know that we need to panic, but today made it pretty clear that we're not going to be competitive at the top end of the table with what we have in that area right now.

With the bottom of the table waking up over the festive period, I do think that we need to take relegation seriously. Measured on goals for/against, the other candidates don't look that different from us. We've backslid on both this season, and we need to address at least one to feel confident in staying up (much less closing the gap to European places).

Whether the best route to do that is shore up the backline, try to get possession and creativity or try to get better finishing is less clear to me. They ALL seem wanting.
So you think Bournemouth have more chance of making 6 points on us a team that’s won 1 in 10 to us catching Utd or Spurs?

Gbamin and Delph were struggling when they arrived; last summer Bernard and Gomes and Mina were all struggling when they arrived. There;s a pattern here.
Gbamin was injured in training, Delph always struggled with injuries, Bernard hadn’t kicked a ball for 6 months an in to the fastest pace league in the world.
Gomes and Mina where both had knocks.. not sure Silva training helped

We need in all seriousness 2 defenders, 3 midfielders and a striker but that’s not gonna happen in Jan.
I be surprised if we sign anyone in jan

This summer we'll have Davies, Baningime, Delph, Gomes, and conceivably Holgate all chasing 2 places. Let's get Schneiderlin out and see if that hands us room to manoeuvre.

Possibly the worst collective of midfielders in the league. You're mental if you don't think a CM is needed.

I don’t think we can rely on a real difference maker to come in January. It’s just a tough time to do business. I’d be looking at anyone, regardless of position, who could improve us in the long run.
