Went to a live show 'Jazz at the Philharmonic' at Leeds Odeon in 1958.
Oscar Peterson trio
Ella Fitzgerald
Dizzy Gillespie
Stan Getz
Roy Eldridge.

WOW! That's a massively good line-up! I always wish I saw Oscar Peterson. I was lucky enough to see Stan Getz at the Chicago Jazz fest in a great 5-day festival line-up with Sun Ra, Herbie Hancock, and Sonny Rollins. This was in 1988.

I have also seen (one of my favourites) the Modern Jazz Quartet. I think that was at the Leeds Odeon too. Can't remember the other artistes on that bill though. I think it was either Count Basie or Duke Ellington. It was over 60 years ago!

Leonard, thanks for putting that up. One thing I didn't mention when I posted about seeing Oscar Peterson was that the first number he played was 'The Golden Striker'. When he finished and for a few seconds, there was just total silence, everyone mesmerised and then a roar of applause. The Golden Striker, of course, was composed by John Lewis of MJQ.

I saw Oscar Peterson on The Philharmonic in the late 70s and again in the early 80s at Ronnie Scott's. Ronnie's Quartet was going then with the great John Critchinson on piano (he also played with Morrissey/Mullen who I saw in the 80s in Liverpool) Havent been back there since its new commercial era...prefer the cosy moodier set up myself being an oul arse even in spite of Ronnie's corny jokes.
