You're in the wrong thread mate, this defo belongs in the Blues thread.

Woke up one morning ...
Went down to The Phil
To woo a young man
Whose name wasn't Bill
He left with my best friend
So I drank till I was ill.

Might need a bit of work, but the feel is there.
Love it.

Verse 2:

His name was Pete
I thought he was sweet
He went off with my mate
Who I now hate

This and classical music are two things I’m ashamed I haven’t gotten into

I never used to like jazz but then I discovered there is much more to it than 'lounge jazz' and you realise how much it has influenced other genres. Socially, it's very interesting too. Arguably more punk than punk at times.

Same with classical really, loads of good stuff from 1960- now as well as the much older stuff.

Again, like 'rock' music, it's kind of been stifled with NOTHING IS AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL bores. Which is also not true.

As a lover of Hammond not much tops Jimmy Smith. :)
The modifier isn't hype. He's incredible - so authentic. He made the sound I hear in my mind.

The Milt Buckner sounds like juke joints from my childhood. Those extended chords with the "all skate" pedal kicked in give me chills.

edit - have you ever moved a Leslie unit? Just kill me first.

This music has such range. Time to drop in some trad jazz based in the authentic '20s style from New Orleans and call it a night.

I love me some Tuba Skinny - these guys are killing it here. The leader and cornet player is Shaye Cohn, sax legend Al Cohn's granddaughter. She's a formidable stride piano player as well. Go to NOLA and see them yourself some day.

Got into jazz when I was 13 or so due to a highly influential trumpet teacher. I'm glad he pushed it on me. First album he gave me was Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. He then taught me to play "all blues" (4th song on Kind of Blue) on guitar as an incentive to stay interested. I'm glad I did. I'm a fan jazz overall but my sweet spot is 1950 to 1975, mostly listening to folks like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins, Herbie Hancock, Sun Ra, T. Monk, Freddie Hubbard, etc. Miles Davis, for a variety of reasons, is a hero of mine. I got to see him at the Chicago Jazz Fest back in 1988 or so. I also was lucky enough to see Sun Ra (for those who are into that space-jazz stuff). To be sure, my jazz interests were always parallel and on the side given what me and my friends mostly listened to back in high school: lots of classic rock and lots of punk/skate rock, but we soon discovered that getting high and listening to Herbie Hancock (Headhunters) was pretty much the best thing to do, so jazz increasingly became part of our rotation:
