Although i've experienced some very cool live jazz in times of my life and enjoyed it !
Double bass with piano, gentle drums, perhaps a guitar joining in 4 in the morning a bit wellied but happy to listen. But !
Radio 6 have decided in their wisdom to play random jazz throughout the day and it's doing my nut in !
Does anyone actually like the full on style ? or is it "Uncool" to say you don't ?
Random bleetings of too many instruments just doesn't do it for me.
What's the attraction ???
Random bleatings, great phrase, love it
Stick with the good stuff me, from the 40s 50s 60s Art Pepper Stan Getz, Miles Davies

This music has such range. Time to drop in some trad jazz based in the authentic '20s style from New Orleans and call it a night.

I love me some Tuba Skinny - these guys are killing it here. The leader and cornet player is Shaye Cohn, sax legend Al Cohn's granddaughter. She's a formidable stride piano player as well. Go to NOLA and see them yourself some day.

Look for video's of Shaye Cohn playing the piano - she's a genious musician!

There are some rock-n-roll drummers who try to make a cross-over into jazz. It usually doesn't work. However, there are jazz drummers, such as the Smashing Pumpkin's Jimmy Chamberlin, who successfully make it into rock-n-roll. But Chamberlin was always trained as a jazz drummer. This is a great jam: Really gets cookin around 2:20 or so...

The jazz you describe initially, yes, I am in. However, the ad-lib, make it up as you go along, my dog could play that...style is just annoying.

Absolutely love freeform jazz.

Big fan of early George Benson and Grant Green.

That's the thing ! I was lucky enough to frequent Cafe Alto in Amsterdam early 90's, Loved it. Thought I'd got all cosmopolitan in me youth. Then I came across that random stuff and that put me off it.
Got to turn it off when it comes on the radio or i'd take me hand off with the saw due to nerves.

Sorry, a deliberately provocative post to irk the purists and see if we can keep this thread back up top for a bit....

And something by way of recompense

Give me some more good stuff to get through to the weekend please.

These guys are amazing, the background to a lot of my summer days this year.

If people like them there's loads of great full performances on YouTube, they were doing live sets too.
