John Stones transfer saga

seriously no-one will ever use this. It is designed so they don't break employment laws designed to protect workers in very different circumstances. If a footballer tried it then it would mean a massive legal debate and complete disruption of the whole contract system. If compensation was easily manageable for the player then contracts would be practically pointless in the first place. It is pretty much negated by putting in release clauses. If the agent hasn't in this case then tough.
Brazil bringing this up is beyond desperate

The first part of Article 17 came about following a challenge to football contracts following what was called the Webster ruling (google it as it's worth a read) . The ruling was confirmed by the Court For Arbitartion Sport. So yes players have already walked away from their contracts using the first part of the article

If you read my earlier post then I said that I am not aware that any player has walked from their contract using the second part of the article

This whole article17 thing is about footballers and their contracts and not workers in other industries as for compensation again it's contained with the article as is the ban that a player would get if he were to walk out of his contract .

Are contracts practically pointless? The clubs won't want a player to walk so ultimately the power is in the hands of the player

Kopites reaction is amusing. When they thought he was going it was all "hahaha this is boss after the way they laughed at us over sterling"

Now he's staying it's all "stupid idiots, they need that money to reinvest"

Anything for a bit of bantz....

Disguise's their previous indiscretions of shirt burning and bullet in the mail antics

yep but the article is designed so they can't be confronted legally because of a law that has little relevance to footballers and I can't find evidence of a footballer even considering it. As I read it a player can go if compensation is granted to a club. This would be an impossible thing to estimate fairly in an industry that is so fluid and based on intangible future success. Any ruling would appear incredibly biased and could be constantly challenged. And if a precedent is put into place financially that makes it easy for players to walk then why have contracts. Clubs won't provide them so a player can walk as he sees fit but they can be lumbered with an injured or off form player for four years.
