John Stones transfer saga

yep but the article is designed so they can't be confronted legally because of a law that has little relevance to footballers and I can't find evidence of a footballer even considering it. As I read it a player can go if compensation is granted to a club. This would be an impossible thing to estimate fairly in an industry that is so fluid and based on intangible future success. Any ruling would appear incredibly biased and could be constantly challenged. And if a precedent is put into place financially that makes it easy for players to walk then why have contracts. Clubs won't provide them so a player can walk as he sees fit but they can be lumbered with an injured or off form player for four years.

Ok the first player to actually use the Article 17 as an escape route was Andy Webster. I know that Jonas Gutierrez and a player called Matuzalems also forced his release using the Article.

As for a precedent in place well that was initally the Webster case but subsequently the Matuzalems case is the one that seems to be how things will be taken forward in the future

Clearly the inspiration for Sontarans on Dr Who.

ok hadn't heard of them but read through them now and these cases seem fairly straightforward, compensation was relatively easy to work out and yet it still led to him being charged with breaking his contract. It a major player tried to use it then it would change the game in a way we probably haven't seen before. How would we value Stones in terms of compensation and what kind of ban would he recieve for breaking a contract? But still any player just walking out because another club has come in for them would make any club reluctant to offer any player a contract that was little more than pay to play. Again, won't happen. And certainly not something Stones would be even taking a look at

"Sky Sports understands that Chelsea will not be making any further bids for Everton defender John Stones."

Mourinho with a face on him at his presser today like he's been slapped with a wet fish.

The white flag has officially been waved.

Everom 40m Chelsea 0.

Well done to everyone at the club who have played a blinder here.

Now, about that transfer kitty Bill...

...what I liked was Mourhino actually saying ' we'll go with what we've got'. Love it !!
