John Stones transfer saga

just look at this post from that thread. This is from a CHELSEA fan:

[Poor language removed] martinez and everton, stupid [Poor language removed] doesn't understand the simple concept of the football food chain, we are near the top, they are near the middle... we poach players from the middle of this totem pole, they poach players from the low end of this totem pole... martinez is just a deluded fool who doesn't understand his team's place in the hierarchy, all the things he's been complaining about i.e poaching players from smaller teams, bidding for players while the season has already started, openly pursuing targets... he does but to teams even lower down the chain

In any case, hopefully they get [Poor language removed] and never receive an offer like that for him again and he is eventually sold for much less...

In fairness he's probably only been following football/Chelsea since June 2003 so he's relatively new to it...

On a serious note, that's it then folks, the leagues, cups, success we have achieved in the past has gone now, good while it lasted but welcome to mediocrity on the 'football totem pole' (wtf???) for all eternity... While we idly stand by and applaud the top of said pole with a nostalgic tear in our eye.

(Absolute whopper!)

Not sure that Mori will hit the ground running that quickly Dave but I agree with the sentiment. If Mori adapts to the English game, Galloway fulfils the potential that many see and Browning makes a mark as well then in twelve months time we could have four relative youngsters competing for places, along with Jagielka. I know you don't rate Jags but he's probably got a couple of seasons left in him at this standard.

Anyway, there may come a time in the next 12 to 18 months time that we have an overabundance of defenders on our books. That would be the time to consider selling one of them.
I dont rate Jagielka as an organiser/captain. He's a decent stopper though. Lost amongst all the hullabaloo over Stones is the fact that he's more crucial to us than Stones is. He has some terrible games at CB when he has one of his customary walkabout periods in a season, but he's consistently been the best CB in the past few years.

It's an interesting thought but it's not going to happen for the following reasons:

(i) the increase in broadcasting revenues widens the disparity in payments made to clubs, for example the gap between 1st and 10th in order of broadcasting revenue grows from £22 million last year to £35 million next year.
(ii) the wealthier clubs already have the infrastructure, stadia and long term commercial deals which clubs like Everton are frankly unlikely ever to enjoy (without the biggest of all sugar daddies buying our club)
(iii) FFP will not allow the clubs with smaller revenues to compete on salaries (let alone transfer fees)

If it was a rising tide that floated all boats equally then it's plausible, but this tide floats the wealthier clubs higher than the less wealthy.

Yep agree 100%. One of my major concerns is that the CEOs at the likes of Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern etc will be looking at the next TV deal and far from it benefitting clubs like Everton they will be facing a different sort of challenge

The Spanish situation is changing, the Spanish Government passed legislation in May to distribute funds more equitably, but I agree in terms of the direction we are going.

Yes was aware of that .

In a way it's staggering that the big Eureopean clubs have not moved on from the current structure and if and a big if they get their act together the majority of football save that super league will bumble along but at a totally different level and will be fighting for scraps much like clubs in England do currently

Expecting a much improved performance from him against Spurs as the whole business was obviously playing on his mind the other night.

Now that he has certainty about the immediate future he should be able to get back to his normal assured self, notwithstanding the fact that he will also have been spoken to by the management team and the senior pros.

And hopefully he will have decided to sack off one of the major culprits in this saga - his agent - who advised him badly and must be gutted that he didn't get the nice little earner that he was expecting.

It must have wrecked his head when one person he trusts is telling him to do one thing and another person another thing. Hopefully he will be able to put it behind him, settle down again, and put in the type of performances he's already shown he is capable of.

If TV monies were withdrawn as things stand the vast majority of PL clubs would be in the do do .

TV accounted for about 73% of Evertons total income. Chelsea TV income about 43% of theirs. Gate receipts accounted for about 15% of Evertons income. Chelsea's gate receipts accounted for about 22%

Without TV money Everton had about £32million income whereas Chelsea had about £180 million

Having watched the Championship teams suffer with the collapse of their big TV deal it's not something that I hope football at any level ever goes through again but be careful what you wish for as they say
If TV money disappeared from the premiership now it would be the big clubs that would be hit hardest. Clubs like Everton have a hardcore of supporters that will stay with them Chelsea have probably less. A lot of the "plastic " supporters follow success and if Abramovich sold his shares in Chelea and decided to pump his billions into Charlton in a short time we would see tens of thousands "die hard" Charlton supporters spring up.

Look at Man Utd they are spending unbelieveable money because they cannot afford not to.
Everton could slim down a lot more easily than clubs paying up to 300k per week to a player.

If TV money goes then football as we know it changes completely.

To be honest and it was a thought that had already crossed my mind, and there was a comment on that Chelsea forum that might be worth taking into consideration.
If we play hardball with these youngsters and refuse to let them move onto what they may consider a "better" club ( and please don't lets get involved in, we are a big club etc please) how would that affect us recruiting youngsters, would it be perceived as a limiting factor and reduce the possibility of having long term contracts accepted?
It would mean we are again a serious club with ambitions to win trophies. Join us and succeed.
