I obviously know they havnt. So you don't think continually selling our best player will go some way to explaing the drought. If you think we are going to keep hold of stones in the next year or two you are mad.

I disagree. We can replace McCarthy. There's plenty of decent CDM who run around all day. There's very few real quality CBs in the whole of Europe. Even fewer young ones.

The reality is if we lost McCarthy it would clear a way for Barkley, Besic and Cleverly. If we lost Stones it would be a huge loss this season and an even bigger one in seasons to come.

That's damning with faint praise the role he has with us. He's more than a runner, he keeps the ball ticking over for a team that plays possession football. He's the cornerstone.

Lukaku's goals also make him indispensable.
