John Stones transfer saga

sorry mate but just no

I cant underline enough how much I hope we retain Stones. I'd be delighted if Stones came out and said he doesn't want to go.

But are we really at the point where we see the departure of a player like Stones in the same light as the Rooney departure? Not for me. Not even close.

This new TV deal gives these horrible SKY faves absolute mega money. I wouldn't blink until Chelsea start going north of 100mil.
He is potentially the best centre half of this obscene money fuelled generation and we are only just at the start of it.

I personally still would not sell.

How about

They need to at the very least double that though

I don't need to tell everyone how highly I rate him. It will only be a year or two before he is at the level of being a starter for Barcelona or someone like that. There's no way we should be letting him go on the cheap, it's between him and Varane as to who is the best young defender in Europe. He's THAT good.

Please give us one more year :(

That's pretty much it.

We should be doubling his usual fee because Chelsea largely contributed to football going downhill since Abramovich came to this country.

Then we should be doubling that new fee because they are loaded and don't even need him, while it'd massively weaken our squad.

Then we should half it and add 20m.

30m * 2 * 2 / 2 + 20m = 80m deal or no deal.

Clearly not since the Arteta sale. Lescott Fellaini Rodwell all that money hot reinvested in new players meanwhile big bids for Baines have been rejected and no one else has been sold. We clearly don't need to sell to survive. How is what we are doing different to any other club? It's not. Every club in the league bar Chelsea and City (and even they occasionally now to Madrid or Barca) is a selling club. We are no different and in fact have held onto our better players for longer than a lot of our peers. I'd say we're actually one of the least selling club in the league. We sell rarely and very expensively when we do.

I was just pointing out we've had to sell to survive in the past. At the moment that is not the case, but in the future it may be again because we are to dependant on TV deals. Even now, we still take out loans against future TV payments.

While our commercial deals are lacking to say the least and the lack of activity to provide a new stadium to organically grow our revenues we will get sucked back into the sell to buy, then sell to survive.

its bigger mate, with the amount of money in the current deals with tv, compared to our financial position back then, it would feel ten times worse and would effectively destroy any notion about us building a team for the future

Player of the season in 2013/14; would have been again if injury hadn't intervened.

I think some sanity needs to be restored where Stones is concerned. Yes he is VERY VERY good. Yes we all want him to stay. But if the cash is HUGE and we get all of it to strengthen elsewhere then we can cope.
Yes

sorry mate but just no
No, yes.

He'll stay for another season. However he'll be off to Chelsea for mega, mega, MEGA money next summer

The board apparently value him at around £35 million - according to an Echo article a few months back - so this bid looks like it's designed to agitate Stones into asking for the move. If he does go, that money -- in theory -- could go on the number 10 position, new keeper and a decent CB.

But it's Stones, he's utterly boss and I'd much prefer for it him to be playing in our shade of Royal Blue
Doesn't he have like 4 years on his current deal?

I don't think he can really do that. If he wants to move it would be better for him to agree a timescale with Martinez. This summer is too early both for us and for him.
