John Stones transfer saga

In fairness we all knew this was coming. £40m would be the acceptable market value in my (completely uneducated) opinion.

City's initial bid for Sterling was £25m? and it ended up being double that so maybe. Can't see Chelsea going over 30m tbh. They baulked at paying that for Shaw last year.

Is this what we have become, hoping a player will give us one more year?

We were one of the Giants of the game and this board has allowed us to be easy pickings, lowering our expectations.

We will always be in this position while they are in charge. If Lukaku has a good season, it'll be the same with him next year.

Why aren't we as a fan base fighting back against this? It really is time we started applying huge pressure onto this board or we will be forever shackled.

The problem arises when the player wants to leave. He can put Hugh pressure on the club especially if not signing a new contract and has only a year or 2 left. He knows the club can't afford to leave him run it down. Modern football . It's important to include a Iver priced buy out clause when signing a contract .

Will he go. I think he would be foolish. He won't start for another couple years at Chelsea.

its bigger mate, with the amount of money in the current deals with tv, compared to our financial position back then, it would feel ten times worse and would effectively destroy any notion about us building a team for the future

I think that's overreaction. If we let another one in this window go I'd shift along to your position. But no club in our position (not challenging for honours) is immune to this type of asset stripping - tv revenue or not.

Because it happens with every team now even the big clubs, bar Barca, Real, Bayern.
United asked Ronaldo to give them one more year and he did, as with the RS & Saurez.
Bet if Real Madrid came in for Aguero now Man City could do nothing about it

I don't think handing in a request is necessarily 'rocking the boat'. Surely if they offer a really good amount of money, it would be hard for Stones to say 'nah, I don't want to join the champions and get regular CL football, I really want to stay at Everton'. It'd be understandable if he told the club he wanted to go.

If I thought Stones would be bench-warming at Chelsea then I'd hope he'd stay, but I reckon he'd get plenty of match-time, what with Terry not getting any younger.

I know loyalty in footy is virtually non-existent, but I would hope the lad showed us a bit.

Cant see Stones leaving now. I doubt he would want to leave and also his value will keep rising...would take £60mil i think for him to leave. Martinez also has made it clear he is building something here and so why sell, especially when he spent £28mil on Lukaku...cant see any of the main guys leaving unless for world record transfer fees.
