John Stones transfer saga

Because there is still a month left. Everton will drag this out and sell as the window closes. We've done it many times before: Rooney, Lescott, Arteta, etc.

Those times though the interest only came late and the player wanted to go. Wenger only went for Arteta once Fabregas went. We set a price and they paid it. This time no one knows if Stones wants to go. If he did you would think Everton would set a price. If they had Chelsea would know what to pay. So either they are deliberately low balling hoping to get a better deal and see if we'll just take money on offer, or they are using public bids to turn a players head to either bring down a huge valuation or convince him to join so we relax our not for sale stance.

Why don't Everton just kill this by saying that John Stones is not for sale but recognise that it is recognised that every player has a price. It will take £65 million clear, breaking the British transfer record for us to even consider it and asking Chelsea to bid that amount or stop messing about.

Holding out for another £8m/£9m judging from past records?

Rooney and Lescott both dragged on all summer.

Here is a crazy thought.

We owe chelsea money for lukaku.

Chelsea want to buy stones

Somewhere chelsea clear our debt off and sign stones with a much smaller amount therefore reducing our income but leaving us a little bit less in debt.

You follow me?

And perhaps the lukaku deal has some tiny connection to the stones interest?

Lukaku money will already be on our books. We commuted to pay that last season with no knowledge of Stones' exit (you would like to think..). So it really makes no difference to us if they cancel our payments for Lukaku and give us a lower fee for Stones.

I think we'll hold out for a British record price for a defender, which will also be a club record for a sale. Something around £35m.

We owe Chelsea pennies. Something like £4m.

Its nothing really and is all contracted.

Meaning in actual fact we owe them nothing. The money they are due is already contractually arranged and has been set aside.

It has no bearing on the John Stones is an Everton player issue.
thats bull mate. Im sorry but we havent paid chelsea 20 odd million in 12 months for luakaku. Jesus we pay everything in installments, why the hell would we suddenly change that to huge amount of money up front?!

We are paying him over the contract or close enough to that. We owe cheslea money and even if it has been set aside, wouldnt stop it being used as a bargaining tool if/when the need arises.

NOT SAYING IT WILL, JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE.

I'm telling you now this deal has been agreed in advance between the two clubs. Chelsea get their man and Everton look like they made a desperate fight to keep the lad and appease the fans. We're stuffed!
