John Stones transfer saga

Kevin Ratcliffe was a great player and captain for Everton, but is a very poor pundit and does tend to be negative about the club.

You can see the affection for Everton coming throught from people like Royle, Ferguson, Reid, Snodin and others, but not Ratcliffe and it is more than just a disappointment that maybe the teams are not as successful as in the eighties.

Ratcliffe is always so negative. Last season he kept on saying we were going to struggle in every Europa League match for no apparent reason. If he has 'high standards' and that's why he is negative all the time he should be calling for Everton to live up to them, not expecting us to fall short constantly.

Given the available data the Telegraph could equally write

"Chelsea are growing increasingly concerned that they will fail to sign John Stones. The club, despite manager Jose Mourinho's insistence that their defence is strong, only have four experienced defenders heading into a season where they will attempt to retain their title against rivals that appear to have strengthened. Chelsea are hopeful that the versatile and talented 20 year old Kurt Zouma will continue his progression but with only 7 league starts last year there is a risk in relying soley on him to provide cover for the first choice backline, especially since John Terry will turn 35 and Ivanovic 32 over the course of the campaign.

Deals for Stones and Baba Rahman were expected to have been completed before the opening weekend. However their current clubs have publicly said they do not need to sell and in recent years Chelsea have been reluctant to pay what they consider inflated transfer fees as demonstrated by the decision not compete with Manchester United for Luke Shaw"

This is why I get annoyed with people defending Ratcliffe, saying 'He's only saying the truth' and 'Blame the board'.

No, I blame Ratcluffe for essentially creating more disruptive unhelpful headlines, due to his rampant disrespect of Everton's stature.

Compare Ratcliffe's comments with, say, what Big Dunc thinks of the club.

He has no need to say what he did. He knows absolutely nothing about whats going on and is giving his personal opinion.

He's an idiot if he didnt think journos wouldn't jump all over it and use it to publish BS. We play Watford in 4 days and could really do without this BS.

Big Dunc just 2 days ago publicly gave a ringing endorsement of the chairman, and has been slated for it on here.

We shouldn't get annoyed with former club legends expressing their opinion, whatever it may be. They're all entitled to it.

Rats isn't very eloquent in his use of the English language IMO, and as a result his words often don't truly reflect what he means to say. But without doubt he does not disrespect Everton's stature.

Alright, Kev.

Anyone who post on here regularly knows I post sporadically. I hear things from a mate from time to time as his uncle is a driver for the club, I said in here a while back about how some of the players weren't happy with his training. I spoke to the mate again tonight and he said his uncle had mentioned a few things to him

1) firstly I will get this one out the way as it is in the Stones thread. Basically he got a call off stones to pick him up before the Villarreal game, spoke to him on the way to the game. He said he would like to play for Chelsea but wouldn't force a move and had a meeting with the manager on Monday. As nothing has happened I assume he's probably staying or we would have let Chelsea know a deal could be done and another bid would have come in.

2) basically the problem I mentioned with the players and training hasn't gone away. Up to 8 first team players want rid of Martinez. Distin spoke out about what the players feel are naive tactics to hold onto the ball and practice very little defensive drills. He got froze out and let go.

The rest of it was basically Coleman and Delefeuo have struck up an unlikely friendship and McCarthy still being upset about his contract. People don't have to believe the information, I'm not saying I believe it, just something I got told I thought I'd pass on

You usually pass good info on mate. Well in for sharing.

If 2) is true, that really blows and we're in for a long season. No way you can have success when 8 (Eight!!) first team players don't support the manager. Personally, I'm skeptical. Not of you but of the source.

I agree, I'm a bit skeptical but more of the number of players. I can see the idea some of the squad are unhappy given we conceded so many last year as plausible and it would explain why Distin was frozen out I suppose. If it is that many players though I think it could be bad news which will ultimately end with Martinez being chopped. That is just my opinion though mate

Nice one, but get your tin hat on because you are about to be hammered and accused of being a plotter!

Failure to listen to and get engagement of his experienced players will not end well if true like. Unless he's planning entire changes.

I didn't like to say but I have been told similar by a trusty lid about the training methods and experienced players not being on board.
