John Stones transfer saga

You see, here's the thing.

Kevin Ratcliffe is probably the best central defender Everton have ever had.

Certainly in my lifetime anyway.

It would be a race between him and Brian Labone, IMO.

His career path is a bit like John Stones's insofar as Kevin was a young full back converted very successfully to centre back.

Few would argue round these parts, I hope, that if John turns out to be 75% the player Kevin was he will be doing all right.

So Kevin Ratcliffe knows a bit about precocious young players fulfilling their potential. Because he has been there and has the tee shirt

He also knows a bit about the workings at Goodison.

So if he reckons EFC cannot "afford" to turn down thirty million quid his point just might be that it is an awful lot of dough to turn down for a player who doesn't have much more than a season's worth of PL games under his belt and who might never fulfill his potential.

Especially if that money was to be ploughed back into the team.

Kevin has at least earned the right to be given the benefit of the doubt when he speaks on this matter

All this kneejerking and traducing of his bona fides is just plain daft.

Instead of ripping into the fellow (I am not accusing you of such behaviour, Ad, but some boys round here are) Evertonians should show him enough respect to Listen to what he says without getting all defensive over it.

....despite Ratcliffe being a fine player and Evertonian it doesn't mean folk have to believe him. There are individuals who you listen to and take note, I have to say that Ratcliffe isn't one of them as far as I'm concerned.

Hope we reject the next bid of 30 million, started of with 17 and now the bid is double. Really worrying if they put this bid in.

There seem to be a few divisions between the fanbase.

Those who think we should sell to possibly strengthen the squad with a wad of cash(although how much will RM see of it).

Those who seem that because it's Chelsea then there is no way a little club like poor Everton can hold onto him so he's basically gone.

And some of us who think he'd be better off staying here because you know, we are still one of the biggest clubs in the country, possibly 6th or 7th out of 92 professional clubs, not too shabby really.(that's current day)

Some of you need to get out of the mindset that we 'HAVE' to sell, we don't and should only do so if every other option is futile.

Mourinho just been on a live interview with Alan Brazil on Talksport. Said that for him the transfer window has shut and they will not be buying any more players.

Take it with a pinch of salt, but its straight from the horses mouth. Think he's been told to do one by Everton myself.

Anyone else consider the possibility that Chelski , for whatever reason, we're not going to spend much this Sumer and have used the Stones bid a s a bit of a "we tried and it did not come off " story to pacify fans? Those bids were never going to be accepted.

Could be.

And, those failed bids have certainly indicated to City, Manu etc that if any of them have designs on trying to sign Stones, they're gonna have to go above £30 million to have any chance. Methinks these failed bids have been the "we really want you" message to Stones for next summer and Chelski could have cemented themselves as the front runner if/when the time comes almost irrespectively of what any other club bids.
