John Stones transfer saga

That's pretty grim reading if true! My only skeptism is that there was no talk of problems the season we finished 5th, these stories temd to appear when we are in a bad spot.

We heard similar stories about Moyes losing the dressing room, yet he had solid allies in Cahill and Neville, not sure who would be classed as a similar strong character in the current squad.

If 2) is true, that really blows and we're in for a long season. No way you can have success when 8 (Eight!!) first team players don't support the manager. Personally, I'm skeptical. Not of you but of the source.

That number's high, but look at it another way. Have you ever worked a job where a fair number of subordinates didn't like their boss's methods? Let's say the real number is six. That's what, 1/4th of the senior squad? That number probably isn't far off of any other job in the world.

That said, it's not a great sign and even the most talented teams would struggle with such discord.

Anyone who post on here regularly knows I post sporadically. I hear things from a mate from time to time as his uncle is a driver for the club, I said in here a while back about how some of the players weren't happy with his training. I spoke to the mate again tonight and he said his uncle had mentioned a few things to him

1) firstly I will get this one out the way as it is in the Stones thread. Basically he got a call off stones to pick him up before the Villarreal game, spoke to him on the way to the game. He said he would like to play for Chelsea but wouldn't force a move and had a meeting with the manager on Monday. As nothing has happened I assume he's probably staying or we would have let Chelsea know a deal could be done and another bid would have come in.

2) basically the problem I mentioned with the players and training hasn't gone away. Up to 8 first team players want rid of Martinez. Distin spoke out about what the players feel are naive tactics to hold onto the ball and practice very little defensive drills. He got froze out and let go.

The rest of it was basically Coleman and Delefeuo have struck up an unlikely friendship and McCarthy still being upset about his contract. People don't have to believe the information, I'm not saying I believe it, just something I got told I thought I'd pass on
But if a player was so unhappy with a managers training methods that he didn't want to play for him why would he sign a new contract with that very same manager?

Players who have extended their contracts under Martinez - Howard, Jagielka, Stones, Baines, Garbutt, Coleman, Hibbert, Osman, Naismith, Barkley ie most of our backline that would be most impacted by the defensive drills.

And players who signed on permament after being on loan Lukaku, Deulofeu, Barry and apparently Lennon is keen and Cleverley actively wanted to come to play for Martinez.

So that leaves Robles, Oviedo, McCarthy, Mirallas, Kone, McGeady, Pienaar, Besic, Gibson as the only ones who haven't and three of those already had extensive experience with Martinez's training methods yet chose to sing anyway.

Everton fears grow over defender John Stones as bidding heads towards £30m mark

Everton are growing increasingly concerned that they will fail to stop John Stones joining Chelsea, despite manager Roberto Martinez’s insistence that the central defender is not for sale.

Chelsea are preparing a third bid of around £30 million for Stones, despite Martinez repeating his desire to keep the 21-year-old at Goodison Park.

While Martinez is demonstrating a brave front, Everton insiders fear that the club will ultimately be forced to let Stones move to Stamford Bridge once Chelsea go over the £30 million mark.

Everton are already closing in on one senior central defender to join the club, with Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk and Swansea City’s Ashley Williams all among their targets.

It is also understood that Everton are looking at younger options, as they attempt to plan for the possibility of Stones leaving.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho last week refused to discuss his bid for Stones, despite previously expressing his admiration for the player. The Premier League champions have failed with offers of £20 million and £26  million, but remain hopeful a deal worth up to £34 million can be agreed.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport, talks are thought to have been held between Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck and his Everton counterpart Bill Kenwright about avoiding any more public spats over the matter.

Rio Ferdinand has told Stones that he should join his former club Manchester United, but that will not have any bearing on the player or Chelsea’s bid.

Contrary to Ferdinand’s claim that Stones would spend his time sitting on the substitutes’ bench at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have a clear career plan for the England international.

Should they succeed in their bid, then Chelsea will give Stones encouragement that he would make at least 30 appearances this season with the view to eventually succeeding captain John Terry.

Chelsea have already displayed their faith in Stones by making him their one big transfer target of the summer and believe he could be a key player for the next decade.

Barry and Naismith would be the two I would think would be behind Martinez if there is any truth it it.

But personally I don't believe it. I think there's still an issue with Mirallas but apart from that the main players are behind him.

Besides most of the 1st team are Martinez's buys now or players that have had their contracts extended. I know that doesn't necessarily mean they are behind him but it does make it more likely.

The way Mourinho just dropped talking about Stones made me think maybe he got the word from us that if a deal was to be done then this would only make Everton dig in.

However that still doesn't mean it's true. The guy could just be extrapolating like I did and passing it off as fact to sell papers.

I have a feeling he won't go.

Here we go again, Ed.

Kevin's only "crime" is that he judges Everton by higher standards than most on here do.

If Kevin Ratcliffe is "negative" then you can bet your boots there is sommat to be negative about.

He has earned the right to criticise mediocrity at our club.

:)
But he's not criticizing it. He's practically advocating for it.

You see, here's the thing.

Kevin Ratcliffe is probably the best central defender Everton have ever had.

Certainly in my lifetime anyway.

It would be a race between him and Brian Labone, IMO.

His career path is a bit like John Stones's insofar as Kevin was a young full back converted very successfully to centre back.

Few would argue round these parts, I hope, that if John turns out to be 75% the player Kevin was he will be doing all right.

So Kevin Ratcliffe knows a bit about precocious young players fulfilling their potential. Because he has been there and has the tee shirt

He also knows a bit about the workings at Goodison.

So if he reckons EFC cannot "afford" to turn down thirty million quid his point just might be that it is an awful lot of dough to turn down for a player who doesn't have much more than a season's worth of PL games under his belt and who might never fulfill his potential.

Especially if that money was to be ploughed back into the team.

Kevin has at least earned the right to be given the benefit of the doubt when he speaks on this matter

All this kneejerking and traducing of his bona fides is just plain daft.

Instead of ripping into the fellow (I am not accusing you of such behaviour, Ad, but some boys round here are) Evertonians should show him enough respect to Listen to what he says without getting all defensive over it.

Oh great more evertonians trying to sell our players so we can use the money for kneejerk signings'. Some people don't seem to realise that its the Message it sends out if we sell Stones to the likes of lukaku. I despair I really do. We're finished as a club with ambition if we give in to them cockneys with their endless money. We should be buying a thirty million pound player every year and never come eleventh again.

Thing is I could understand if some players had concerns about the defensive routines, tbh I have some myself. Every team has issues with their coach as no manager is perfect and defence does seem to be martinez's Achilles heel.

But it is a whole different situation to state that 8 senior players want rid of him. Generally think talk is cheap and if the situation is that bad we would have seen far more agitating for a move, including Stones himself.

But guess we'll see - hopefully we have the defensive solidity we did during the first season!

What I wanna know is why stones doesn't have his own car jaysus!
