John Stones transfer saga

Who are we kidding, as soon as the offer breaks 30 mil kenwright will be on the phone to delta booking a taxi for John.

Don't know about that - it may depend on whether Stones's head gets turned.

But if over £30m was offered for a centre back, of course you have to look at the offer seriously, that's just reality, but it would be a tragedy if he signed for them.

He had 3 and half years left on his contract with us when you paid £2.2 million for a player who worth double that at least, maybe the only reason you got him was because of the sell on. In hindsight you should have paid £5m and 10% sell on, but let's be honest most Everton fans moaned when you paid £2.2M for him. Their would have been uproar if you'd paid £5M you can't have it both ways .

I only saw 25% from a Barnsley fan on twitter so nothing concrete like, imo I could see it being about 15-20% as whilst our board are chumps they are tight fisted chumps so couldn't see them willing to fork over a 1/4 of any fee (although I may be wrong) have you heard anything on it?

Will come into importance at some point down the line but won't be this season imo, he won't leave to sit on Chelsea's bench with the internationals coming up next year, although on prices the red shyte signed Gomez for £3.5 million and he is as highly rated as Stones was, so I don't think £2.5 million was a terrible price for the kid when you take hindsight out of it, we paid £4 mil for Deloufeu who is Spains under 21 captain and massively rated by Barca.

As far as I'm aware the only bid or interest is Chelsea's 20m bid. Links?

Why would you even bother talking down one of our players? If you can't see what a huge difference that lad makes to our defence when he plays then you can't have watched us play much. To then claim there's only been one bid as a sign that he's not all that is pretty embarrassing.

please don't encourage the bellwhiffs by arguing with them

Everton play hardball as Chelsea weigh up sensational record offer for star John Stones
EVERTON insist they will resist all offers for John Stones despite Chelsea being prepared to make him the most expensive ever English defender at more than £30million.

The Premier League champions have made contact over the possibility of signing Stones, but Everton are adamant he will not be sold.

An initial gambit of 20m was rebuffed
and Everton rejected a bigger bid from an unnamed club for the 21-year-old last season.

Chelsea will return with an improved offer and value Stones so highly they would be prepared to go above the 30m benchmark set when Rio Ferdinand moved to Manchester United from Leeds United in 2002.

Yet Everton maintain their resolve will not crack and must now hold firm for six weeks.

Roberto Martinez has insisted his priority this summer is to keep his squad intact and is confident interest in Stones, and players such as James McCarthy, can be rebuffed.

In recent seasons, Everton, who face Arsenal today in the Barclays Asia Trophy Final, have fought off interest in their players with the likes of Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman having been retained.

Marouane Fellaini moved to Manchester United in 2013 when an exit clause in his contract was triggered, but Everton tend to now only sell on their terms.

They also have a strong relationship with Chelsea following the 28m capture of Romelu Lukaku and the loan signing of Christian Atsu last summer.

Stones has benefited from regular football at Goodison Park and has the potential to become one of Englands best defenders.

He said at a fans event in Singapore on Thursday night that he was happy at Everton.

“My aim going into the season is to try to nail down a regular spot in this Everton team and hopefully that will take care of playing for England as well,” said Stones, who signed a new five year contract last season.

“I want to keep learning from the likes of Phil Jagielka and keep progressing at this club.”

Martinez is seeking to sign a centre-back this summer, but someone to back up Jagielka and Stones whom he regards as his first choice partnership.

Stones was signed for 3m by former Everton manager David Moyes in January 2013 and has four senior England caps and spent the summer with England U21s.

It's a combination of his age, his potential and the message it would send yet again.

He's a very good player, who's young and makes mistakes.
That's exactly what he is. We shouldn't sell. We shouldn't be talking figures about selling because we can't replace him even if we had the money and if we want to proceed we can't sell our players with the most potential but it doesn't mean we have to go overboard either.

I will say one thing. Mourinho knows his defenders so he obviously sees what we do but still not enough to justify the hype comparing him to losing Rooney.

exactly. we don't need to sell and there has been no indication that we want to sell either. typical end of the world, over the top gloom from this forum

Every player has his price, but in some cases the club holding the player don't need to sell. We have been told my our boss that he does not need to sell anybody as we "balance the books".

If he is made to look a fool now after saying those words, every fan must surely take a stand against this board.

Or do we just swallow the "it's too much money to turn down"
