I look forward to Stones on the cover of FIFA17 in an Everton kit and seeing Moronho pass out!
We might not be able to replace Stones with a player as good, but with that amount of money would could buy 2 very good players, as well as a couple of players to build out the squad.Yeah great, if you're playing footy manager. Most of us operate in the real world where replacing someone without the fee being over inflated or not as good as Stones is the only real result.

I agree that there are plenty of examples of it going wrong, but to say that there's no way we could improve the squad with £40m seems a bit silly.
Hopefully we're going to keep Stones and spend money on improving in the necessary areas (back-up striker, creative mid etc.) but if we need to sell to do that then it's not clear to me that turning down £40 million is the best way to move forward.

perhaps a wildly least likely scenario but ill suggest it anyway.
What if the sale of stones funded the number 10? imagine this, we are signing mori and yarmalenko and a number 10. but it came to the board and managers attention Chelsea were going to be signing stones for say 40 million. so martinez then decides to invest some of the money elsewhere, rather than go for 7 million praet for arguments sake he pushes the amount needed for a much better number 10 up to say 20 million. In that scenario van dijk would be coming as well as a centre half from Scotland is up martinezs avenue, despite him being Dutch lol
so yeah. crazy scenario but would we be better for that? Selling stones sure but his replacements were a very good prospect in dijk and a much better number 10 as well as yarm as an attacking player and mori the back up defender. perhaps even a cheeky lennon deal with the potential of pienner then leaving the club in Jan on a release for first team football?
at least it's technically possible, and yarm represents the board investment
every possibilty this is already happening. papers reporting bids rejected but this could be their spin after chelsea contact them and say we have told them this much. maybe since the No Sale message we are not officially replying. Or maybe it has been left with some guy in the post room. 'any letter from Chelsea lad, don't open it, write 'return to sender' on it and staple a picture of the Everton kit with Stones 5 on it.'I'm not sure Chelsea will bid again, then again they can't take a hint, isn't it obvious we don't want to sell him. We've told them 3 times and Martinez has said it twice.
We turned down there offers almost instantly, not like we've gone...hmmm waited 2 days and then said no making it look like we're mulling it over.
Maybe next bid we just ignore it then when they get all excited 2 days later after no reply, they phone us and we say what bid? O you bidded £40mil o okay, yeah he's not for sale
and even if he slightly favours a move, which seems questionable, we don't have to accept a transfer request and unless he is clear we would I can't see him wanting to rock the boat with four years on his contract. clearly not the kind of player to sulkNone of us know what John Stones wants to do and that is the crucial factor.
It is obvious that Chelsea are now depending on John Stones agitating for a move and if he doesn't it is unlikely there will be another bid imo.
It is also obvious the earlier lower bids were aimed at unsettling the player rather than being a serious attempt to buy the player at that price.
I think that if John Stones were going to try to force through a move he would have done so by now, but we do not know what is happening in the background at the club.
All we can see is a player still performing well in the team and still apparently happy and that is all we can really go by.
As if they'd put an Everton player on the front of FIFA
Even during the 80's that would have never happened
So long as Stones is still here, I'll be happy
