John Stones transfer saga

Don't know if John Stones will be here at the end of the window, but well done to Everton for doing there best to keep him, I still remember the bad old days of Peter Johnson when we used to sell our best player every season.

Australian version doesn't count

Even if we accept 40mil your losing 2-5 mil to Barnsley Stright away leaving you with 35mil. There no guantee we would get players in in time. We need a CB before we can sell Stones as the seasons well underway now

Chelsea are open to loaning Victor Moses and Bertrand Traore to Everton in order to secure the signing of John Stones, according to the Telegraph.

They are getting so desperate now - its getting farcical!

Victor Moses you say...well why didn't you say that in the first place! Please take Mr Stones, perhaps we could tempt you with a free Ross Barkley too...

Or perhaps just ' Koff'

Assuming we were allowed to spend it on players, it would be quite exciting to have £40m to play with right?

I was all for keeping Stones, but £40 million seems like a good deal to me.

But we wouldn't have £40 million to spend on players.

Up to a quarter of it would go to Barnsley.

None of us know what John Stones wants to do and that is the crucial factor.

It is obvious that Chelsea are now depending on John Stones agitating for a move and if he doesn't it is unlikely there will be another bid imo.
It is also obvious the earlier lower bids were aimed at unsettling the player rather than being a serious attempt to buy the player at that price.

I think that if John Stones were going to try to force through a move he would have done so by now, but we do not know what is happening in the background at the club.
All we can see is a player still performing well in the team and still apparently happy and that is all we can really go by.
Stones is still under contract its up to RM what he wants to do if he sulks browning can play - anything to stop us getting bullied and imo he has been tapped up unofficially its been a frantic press / media campaign as they have nothing else but to support the top four clubs!

We might not be able to replace Stones with a player as good, but with that amount of money would could buy 2 very good players, as well as a couple of players to build out the squad.

I agree that there are plenty of examples of it going wrong, but to say that there's no way we could improve the squad with £40m seems a bit silly.

Hopefully we're going to keep Stones and spend money on improving in the necessary areas (back-up striker, creative mid etc.) but if we need to sell to do that then it's not clear to me that turning down £40 million is the best way to move forward.

I think it was @chicoazul who said the money might improve the squad but the sale of Stones would weaken the starting XI.

Another thing to consider is the example of the RS and Spurs.

They have cashed in on prized assets and are demonstrably worse off despite attempting to "improve the squad" with the dough.

It's only a matter of time before they bid 50 Million

Stand firm Everton and don't sell for any price

They could offer us 100 Million and their place in the Champions League and I wouldn't take it
had a read of the Chelsea forum and I think it will be massively unpopular with most of them if they bid more than they already have. Suprised to read a few reasonable fans on there who were pointing out how badly it reflected on their academy if they are looking at 40 mill for someone who might be fourth choice. it really is only the fevered media pushing for this now
