John Stones transfer saga

How would this transfer go ?
John Stones puts in a transfer request and we say alright you can leave...even though you have four years left on a contract.

Do we then ask Chelsea what is a fair price, haggle with them a little and then settle ?

Is the sales price based on the fact that they have made three offers and those offers set the basis on which negotiations are carried out ?

OR

Do we now say to John Stones and his agent that we have a contract and expect him to honour it.
We tell him that if he really wants to leave, he can but the price is for Everton to choose.
We then do a Liverpool and tell Chelsea the price is 60m and not budge.

I am not at all saying that John Stones will leave or even ask to leave, but some on here are acting like frightened rabbits and are expecting the club to lie down in front of Chelsea.
This club has a history of extracting every last penny in our outgoing transfers.
I think Chelsea may well find that they have a long way to go before they sign anybody from Everton.

at the worst we should agree to sell him in january for a massive fee so it gives us time to scout a replacement and decide what else to do with the money.

selling now makes no sense, we'd either bring in a defender of the calibre of ones we've been looking at as backup, panic buy and spend OTT on a risk or have to wait until january to address the issue.

we have such amateurs in charge of negotiations.

That is simply not true TJ.

I think our record in transfer deals is as good as any.
Which deals spring to mind where we have not done well ?
Think of Fellaini, Lescott, Anichebe and Jelavic to name just four.

Cunning of Stones to go out of his way to tell the Mail's North East football correspondant and the "journalists" of the S*n but not tell any of the North West writers with any links to the club.

SportsMail understands the England defender is yet to hand in a transfer request, but will do so should the deal drag on into next week as Chelsea prepare to raise their bid to £35m.

If, as many of us believe, no such action has been indicated by John Stones, or will be forthcoming, this is borderline libellous.

Seriously? "Mourinho has persistently refused to speak about Stones" what [Poor language removed] parallel universe are they talking about?

John Stones in focus: all you need to know about Everton's most wanted
With three failed bids by Chelsea to nab Everton's 21-year-old centre-back, we look at the career of John Stones

As the end of the transfer window looms ever closer, Chelsea's efforts to bag John Stones from Everton continue with fresh claims that the defender has to push the deal through himself.

Along with a rumoured price tage of £40 million, Stamford Bridge's interest in the 21-year-old is an indicator of how quickly Stones has come since his days at Barnsley FC, where he made his senior debut at 17.

Stones switched over to Everton at the beginning of 2013 for £3 million, where he appeared 54 times in his first two seasons. A year later he went on to be selected for the England squad, making 4 appearances.

Mourinho has persistently refused to speak about Stones, but has described the last few week of the transfer window as an opportunity, going on to say, "you can do something you really believe you cannot pass up. Let's see what can happen."

Was the reporters name Jose...........

Chelsea would be delighted to have Stones staying at Everton until past the weekend, playing an absolute blinder against Man City and helping to deprive them of a win. Then they'll make another move.

what is the point of trying to build a team of achievers when as soon as a player is noticed to have a bit of potential we have to sell them to a richer club!!!! and maybe tear up a contract cos the player wants to go! this football lark is right getting on my tits! whats the point????

Nothing annoys me worse than seeing the word "understands" used this way in journalism. You can't "understand" that a fact is true, it's either true or its not.

He is not for sale.

He's defo handed in a transfer request because the scum doesn't make [Poor language removed] up.....o wait they do

I suspect those at Barnsley could be asking the same question.Football is all about money , always has and always will be.

Keep Stones. We don't need to sell and we are building a team.

Yarmolenko and Funes Mori are signing. This is a very very good window.

If we have to sell someone sell player like McGeady.

It's just psychobabble tat.

They: "understand Stones is yet to hand in a transfer request........"

In English it means Stones HAS NOT handed in a request. They THINK he MIGHT do at a later date.

Then WHY don't they just say that instead FAFS.
